72 is not almost 100 either. Buth this kind of oversimplification/lack of thought explains many of the positions you have taken.

Shit, even if you consider education important. The amount you'll make if you make a roster for even a bit will easily pay for another year of school.

Yep. Financially, it is a no-brainer if you can actually make a team (or even a scout team).

Add in that a lot of these kids come from economically poor households and it emphasizes the financial component.

if seattle knew now what they knew then (only in terms of how he'd be as an NFL QB), and they were the only team to know this future, would he last until their 3rd pick? no

Dude what? What on earth does this have to do with your point that if he were taller he would be picked higher?

I would say that this is an OBVIOUS statement, other than the fact that their other 2 picks are currently starters at their positions as well. We never got to see Flynn in Seattle so its hard to answer that question.

Interesting how the narrative has changed from a few years ago when people were all up in arms about miles not playing young talent. Now it is used against him that he is playing young talent.

These kinds of kids will not like school when they are no longer a student athlete

LOL. True.

My main beef with Miles on playing people is his seeming utter refusal in blowout games to get the backup QB in early enough to get significant game speed time.

Seems silly to me because it 1, increases the odds of a silly injury to your starter and 2, leaves you with Mr. Greenhorn if your QB does get hurt.

Really goes beyond QB too but QB is the most affected by it.

I wonder what % of players even MAKE IT to a second contract before they get cut or injured. Makes sense to me anyway, to stay as long as possible and make as much as you can on a GUARANTEED first contract.

People are acting like 100k and 200k a year difference is no big deal.

HOLY frick.

the only reason he slid was b/c of his height. he didn't have prototypical physical tools

that's the major factor int eh NFL draft

I would argue that at least 3 of the 5 picked ahead of him were and may still be viewed as having better QB skills. You are ignoring team needs, including Seattles, to make your point.

some guys couldn't leave just yet

Mingo, Minter, Logan, Montgomery, Faulk and Ford could've left after the 2011 season.

quote:

once PP7 left, the floodgates opened

2013 - 9
2012 - 3
2011 - 2 (PP7 & Ridley)

When you look at the fact that at some point 4 of the 9 in 2013 (Mingo, Reid, Minter & Montgomery) were listed as potential 1st rounders, you are left to question the moves of Logan, Simon, Ware, Faulk & Ford. (Wing & Mathieu were off the team)

Simon - who knows what exactly went into his decision but he wasn't going to vault from the 5th round to the 1st or 2nd so why wait?
Ware - in a huge stable of running backs. If he projects as a 6th rounder and only 7 running backs were picked in the first 3 rounds of the 2012 draft, why wait?
Faulk - was he going to get better in LSU's training room or perhaps a NFL training room?
Ford - see Ware.

Again, can someone make an argument why they would stay other than for our entertainment?

skills? like accuracy? reading defenses? footwork?

they picked a QB in the top 3 rounds. i don't even know what you're trying to say

GUARANTEED first contract
Not much guarantees or escalators in rookie contracts anymore, basically signing bonuses are the only wiggle room for rookie contracts.

I have said it 3x now, they just signed Flynn, and still picked him with their 3rd pick, after 2 eventual starters, they obviously thought highly of him.

Further, Wilson started like 4 years in college. He was always pretty good, but never looked like a pro bowl type guy like he has this year, and it wasn't because he was a couple inches shorter than ideal.

You sure about this? LINK

quote:

Pulling the top recruit from Louisiana away from LSU is no easy task, but it's one that Nick Saban has pulled off before when he landed Landon Collins in 2012. Despite being a Louisiana native, Robinson has numerous connections at Alabama, including close friendships with wide receiver Cameron Sims, who recently committed to the Tide, and Calera star Ronnie Clark, a top Alabama target. In the end, Alabama's recent record of sending offensive linemen to the NFL may be the Tide's trump card for landing the nation's top recruit.

and if they were drafting for needs, and they knew he'd be this good, they'd have picked him in round 1

why didn't they pick him in round 1, especially if they needed a QB?

i think he has the highest NCAA QB rating ever, his final year
