It is time the NCAA allow players to enter the draft and decide to come back if they don't like the result.

With no agent of course.

Bama sells titles and domination.

doesn't stop their underclassmen from at least looking teh league, apparently. interesting that Nick used the word "grades". i wonder if we'll see some Bama players jump, while not grading highly at their positions?

quote:

There are as many as 10 who have at least explored the possibility by receiving a projection from the NFL Draft board, Saban said.

quote:

"(The grades) are going to determine to a large degree how many will go on or stay," Saban said. "It will affect our team next year."

quote:

"If you stay three years and you're going to be a first-round draft pick, that guy should probably go because it's a significant amount of money and a business decision," Saban said. "All these other guys that are second-day ... 53 percent of the guys that get second-round grades don't even get drafted. It's all about what kind of career you have.

quote:

"Even the second-round pick or third-round pick, your average signing bonus is $700,000. If you can go from being a third-round pick to a guy that's the 25th pick, you make $7 million. That's 10 times more."

You should compare the first 3 rounds. There was incentive to stay pre-CBA because there was a chance to raise your draft stock to get into the "big money" rounds (1-3). Now the big money isn't nearly as big so the incentive to stay another year and risk injury have diminished significantly.

admittedly, i did not read this entire thread.

the long term, big picture is almost always missed by these kids.

"i want that 2nd contract". while it may work for some, it does not work out for the vast majority of them.

after they are out of the nfl, they bitch about not being taken care of. "the league owes it to me because i gave my body for their billions."

you cant have it both ways. graduate, and have a plan. otherwise, stfu.

The big difference is now the pay increase for 3rd rd compared to 6th rd is not a big difference. If players are picked in the 6th rd tey make similar money to the 3rd pick so if you think you could make a jump from 6th rd to 3rd rd their is no reason to hang around.

Just did some research of 3 players. Terron armstead 3rd rd pick of saints, spencer ware 6th rd pick of Seahawks, and Michael ford FA pick up by bears. Terron armstead contract 2.8 million/ 4 yr contract with 600,000 SB, spencer ware 2.25 million /4 yr contract 100,000 SB, and Michael ford 1.5 million/ 3 yr contract with 3500 dollar SB. So if FA to 3rd rd doesn't really matter much whole key is staying in league for 2nd contract. And also notice Ford if stays in league gets to 2nd contract a year earlier which could make up for basically no signing bonus
