Thanks for the "backstory" on p. 7.

Reading that just once again underscores how out of touch Joe really is.

It would be borderline glorious if it was announced at halftime of a home game that he had been canned so Tiger fans could celebrate it together.

I fear in his mind that since TGBFTL is costing us money that he'll think we should get rid of it as well and go full piped-in music.

Next, the pregame an Alma Mater will be eliminated because the opposing team fans will be intimated. This decision is classless.

I'm embarrassed that he proposed this nonsense in front of the other SEC ADs. He has to be a laughingstock.

I'm embarrassed in general to the whole thing. It just sounds tacky and cheap. And the safety issue being thrown out as an excuse is fricking dumb. There are a dozen other safety issues that are real incidents waiting to happen, over this one.

Might as well tell all the recruits to stay off the field during pre game warm ups as well. Same issue if the opposing team's band is an issue.

At the very least, this is an embarrassment for LSU in that it looks so bush league; if breach of contract with JaxState kicks in it could be much worse.

I have multiple graduate degrees from LSU and after the last one I immediately went to work at JSU and still am here. JSU may be an FCS school, but its Marching Southerners are not only an FBS-quality band but a top-tier Power Five conference FBS quality band with a glowing international reputation. Aside from Joe Alleva's bottom line, who benefits from denying them the field at half-time?

Band boosters in Tiger Stadium will not get to see the Southerners perform live, which is an experience not to be missed.

The Southerners will miss the Death Valley experience.

For JSU right now, $120,000 is a big deal; and the only benefit for JSU is the good PR the Southerners halftime performance will bring, along with the possibility of recruiting a few high school bandsmen out of Louisiana -- which also may benefit the bandsmen if they cannot make TGBFTL. No halftime performance = no incentive to bring the band.

As has been pointed out, if the Southerners do not make the trip to Tiger Stadium much of the JSU fan base might not either, thereby diminishing the support for the football team, which would have to affect their play on the field. Given JSU's record against SEC teams some ESPN or other talking head
might spin this into LSU does not have enough confidence in its football program to take on an FCS team at full strength; an LSU victory would be "tainted." Far-fetched as this sounds, it could happen.

And the "safety" justification simply will not pass the smell test.

Just, bring on the bands.

It's been a while since I last saw the Jax State band, but I would agree that they are really good. It's a shame Tiger fans won't get to see them. Of course, F. King could step in and overrule this absurd policy, and he might if the local and national outcry gets loud enough.

Whatever the reason for this stupid decision, it has nothing to do with safety. I've never heard of any incident in TS, or anywhere else for that matter, that indicates it is not safe for a visiting team's band to perform on the field at halftime. Somebody's got a very small mind to come up with that excuse.

The bureaucrats are taking over.

This is bullshite.

I loved it when LSU played aTm back in the day. We often got curb stomped, but the band was awesome.

aTm came and played a team out West in the late 90s and I was stoked to go see them. They left the game at home and I was pissed.

I agree. VERY embarrassing across many avenues: athletics, band, academics, general fans, etc.

Commentators will discuss it during games, print & online media will run with the story, & as this grows it will continue to affect the overall quality of TGBFTL as well as all music department faculty, staff, & students (current & future). Why go perform at LSU when you're being so limited by the AD? Why would you ever want to limit any exposure for the Golden Girls as well?!?! Any screen time or face time they get is worth far more than the expense to travel them.

If people want this piped-in music & terrible stadium experience crap to change, they're going to need to get very vocal very soon.

What I would REALLY like to see is the TAF step in & foot the bill for TGBFTL to take their trips to away games. We all know they can afford it & it would be just the greatest middle finger to Alleva's face.

It's not gonna sell more tickets because those seats come out of the visitor allotment. Tiger fans won't be sitting in those seats unless the visiting school returns the tickets.

Why would F. King overall this? He's probably behind it.
