New policy bans opposing bands from performing in TS

Opponents’ marching bands will no longer perform at halftime of LSU games, according to a new policy the athletic department instituted starting this season, team spokesman Michael Bonnette confirmed Friday.
“It’s a safety issue,” Bonnette told The Advocate. “We don’t have room down there for both bands. In order for bands to perform at half, they’ve got to come down to the field before the first half ends. That’s a lot of people on the sideline.”
Bonnette declined comment when asked if there have been any sideline incidents between opposing band members over the last few seasons. None have been reported. The new policy would prevent potential skirmishes.
LSU’s new policy will affect traveling bands, and at least one official isn’t happy about it.
Jacksonville State band director Ken Bodiford told Montgomery television station WFSA that he will no longer bring JSU’s band to the Sept. 10 meeting with the Tigers, LSU’s home opener. Bodiford said he can’t justify the $120,000 expense of bus rental, hotel accommodations and meals for such a trip if the band was not allowed to perform at halftime.
The decision likely means Southeastern Conference schools, like Alabama, will no longer travel their full band to LSU games. The co-director for Alabama’s Million Dollar Band, in a post on Facebook, said the school would only send a small pep band as a result of the new policy.

Good. If they only bring a pep band, then they won't be as loud. No one wants to see the other team's band anyway.

Lame. Tiger fans should be able to see what good halftime shows look like

I love Tiger Stadium like everyone else, but if you can't justify $120,000 to simply show up, then I don't see how playing at halftime changes that. It's not like you make any money off of it.

I'm curious if there will be an "retaliation" from other schools when LSU travels.

I'm glad someone is a conessieur of college football game halftime shows...

Do y'all like watching LSU's band at away games?
That will be a thing of the past, if this policy remains.

This is fricking stupid. It's not even a good reason.
Just say we want to sell more tickets. That's better than the dumb excuse they put out there.

For someone like Jacksonville state, 120k is a nice chunk of change to save. Would be worth the experience for them to pay to be on the field playing for 100k people, but to be just in the stands, probably not so much.
Is Jacksonville state an HBCU? If so, I'd be disappointed if I held season tickets.

Didn't realize so many Tiger fans were also fans of other school's bands.
Odd.
Odd.

Odd. They've had enough room down there for both bands for the last 92 years. I wonder why they don't now?

I'm certainly not, but if I was Bama, AU, aTm, then I wouldn't let the full LSU band come to an away game if they wouldn't permit my full band to travel to their stadium.
And there are some LSU fans that like to see the full band at an away game from time to time.
But if they don't, then oh well.
The main part I'm just baffled with is the dumb fricking excuse it is. It's just a fricking stupid reason. Like the NFL banning hoodies for players because it "covers their name on the back of the jersey" but you can have dreads and it does the same thing.
Just tell the public the REAL reason you don't want a full band to come to the games.
The AD at LSU is a fricking joke and will continue to be until they get some of these idiots out the door.

What if we didn't let them in the stadium at all? What if we didn't even allow them on campus? At what point would the synapses in your tiny brain allow you to realize that they are not getting enough value out of the trip to justify $120,000?

I don't give a frick about any other team's bands (apart from the epic booing of Alabama's band in 2012), but this seems fricking dumb, especially hiding behind the excuse of "it's a safety issue." Someone going to take a frickin' flugelhorn to the eye?
