Better than her retiring this year!

LSU needs to issue a press release with more details and the renderings of the new stadium. I’m sure the metro council members have this information so public records could be requested if needed.

frick the Metro Council. Keep our name off the proposal and off your building. We are consulting with ALL of the head coaches that use the PMAC to get what their needs and wants are with regards to OUR new on-campus facility.

That could mean a MAJOR PMAC renovation OR a tear-down and rebuild on same site.
A major PMAC renovation makes sense as well IF they relocate Bernie Moore. Also, the teams would be able to still use the recently built training facilities attached to the PMAC as well. And that would be a HUGE issue with a complete demo and rebuild.
You could open up the concourse on the Nicholson and TS sides (demo the large outdated curved ramps) of the PMAC with an option for suites, food courts, and plazas. In the current Bernie Moore footprint, build a new hotel, entertainment district along Nicholson with direct access into the PMAC.
Basically, all of these concepts rely on relocating the track stadium.

THIS is textbook of what happened at Baylor. fricking to the “T”, exactly what happened.
No, Baylor wanted to build their new arena off campus. This discussion has been about temporarily playing downtown until the new (presumably) on campus arena is built/PMAC renovated.

I am pretty sure these do no exist yet. The metro agenda used the term "proposed". Those fricktards likely just read this site and termed it a "proposal".

We're moving Bernie Moore and the Natatorium to where the LSU Golf Course is now. Just need the money for that. You would think that donors would be able to find the $20 million to move the track facilities just so they can get their brand new PMAC they've been dying for.

I'd assume LSU would have to use Raising Canes River Center for a period of time if they build a new arena
This would be so fricking horrible. Women's basketball and gymnastics are drawing sellout crowds of 13,000 at the PMAC. Men's basketball appears to have turned the corner to where they will be competitive in the SEC and could approach crowds of 10,000 soon. It will be devestating to recruit to an arena with SWAC like capacity even for 2 to 3 years. They cannot give up the crowd advantage for any season.

The River Center holds nearly 9,000. Capacity wouldn't be the issue if we have to play there. It's the condition of the building more than anything.

I don't understand where the notion that we would be playing in the River Center is coming from. If we build on a new site (presumably Bernie Moore), we will continue to have our events in the PMAC until the new facility opens.

Assume some time between a new facility being complete and having sports that play year round in the facility between vball, gym, and bball. You'd need a place to squat for a little.

So the River Center would be hosting men’s basketball, women’s basketball, gymnastics, and volleyball? Am I leaving anything out? LSU graduations?

There are lots of comments her that speculate, but if you read the agenda of the ordinance it explains it.
It outlines that LSU is soliciting firms and organizing financing for a new area( although it still feels like it could be a revamp of the PMAC since that's what the TAF has been exploring along with a new arena.)
It also states the scope of the ordinance is not to inhibit or compete with the new area. That what limiting the river center pertains to. They wont compete for live music and other things the new arena will try to attract once it is opened.
It also explores the possibility of just getting rid of the existing arena and developing a full convention space with on site hotel.
The ordinacne would be a win for LSU and TAF. It would basically fosters and supports the building of a new on campus arena.
(3) FURTHER RECOGNIZING THAT A COMPETING FACILITY IN THE GREATER EAST BATON ROUGE REGION TO THE NEW LSU ARENA, WILL PREVENT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE TAF PROJECT, IF THE NEW LSU ARENA IS DEVELOPED AND THEREAFTER CONSTRUCTED, THE CITY-PARISH, REPRESENTED BY THE METRO COUNCIL, AGREES TO RESTRICT, PREVENT AND PROHIBIT LIVE MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT ACTIVITIES TO BE HELD OR CONDUCTED INSIDEROPERTY OWNED BY THE CITY-PARISH, INCLUDING, THE RAISING CANE’S RIVER CENTER COMPLEX (“RIVER CENTER COMPLEX”), OTHER THAN THE RIVER CENTER PERFORMING ARTS THEATRE (“CITY-PARISH RESTRICTION”) AND THE EXHIBITION HALL FOR LIVE MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT EVENTS WITH NO GREATER THAN 3,500 ATTENDEES, UNLESS OTHERWISE AGREED UPON BY THE METRO COUNCIL AND TAF IN WRITING.

This assumes that the PMAC won't exist at the same time as the new facility. Nothing indicates that this is the case.

An ordinance acknowledging and recognizing the benefits of the proposed Tiger Athletic Foundation Project to build an LSU Arena, and thereby restricting certain uses by City-Parish owned buildings, including the Raising Cane’s River Center, and authorizing the Mayor-President to identify one or more strategies for developing additional convention capacity and soliciting a developer to develop a convention hotel.
There was an Advocate article the other day discussing a study of the potential of renovating/replacing the PMAC. They are wanting to attract concerts and performers, but are trying to figure out how to prevent an upgraded PMAC from competing with the River Center since BR isn't large enough to support both.
From the article:
quote:
Meyer said the study will cost a few hundred thousand dollars. The goal is to coordinate issues such as the feasibility of making major upgrades to the River Center, how that would fit in with LSU’s plans to renovate or replace the PMAC, and the proposed redevelopment of Memorial Stadium. Attracting more quality hotels downtown is also in the mix, along with transit improvements.
“There could be over $1 billion in potential investment if it comes together in the right way,” he said. “The overarching point is to be collaborative and complementary.”
Baton Rouge isn’t a big enough market to support two major arenas, Meyer said, and having a renovated River Center and a new PMAC competing with each other for concerts and events would not benefit the city.
Public-private partnerships will be needed to make any sorts of major improvements. “We’re not taxing our way to pay for new entertainment venues,” he said.

Another potential interpretation of this is that they are trying to restrict certain performances from happening at the River Center so that they happen at the future PMAC instead.
