Your weak arse attempt at humor would be better if you used the correct spelling of the person's name you're trying to mock.

BESHARA.

It also states the scope of the ordinance is not to inhibit or compete with the new area. That what limiting the river center pertains to. They wont compete for live music and other things the new arena will try to attract once it is opened.

Sounds like the people trying to get funding together for the PMAC/new arena needed this so as to eliminate the River Center as potential competition for concerts.

This would be so fricking horrible. Women's basketball and gymnastics are drawing sellout crowds of 13,000 at the PMAC. Men's basketball appears to have turned the corner to where they will be competitive in the SEC and could approach crowds of 10,000 soon. It will be devestating to recruit to an arena with SWAC like capacity even for 2 to 3 years. They cannot give up the crowd advantage for any season.

Maybe they will continue to use the pmac while building a new arena?

METRO COUNCIL OF THE

(5) FURTHER RECOGNIZING THAT THE NEW LSU ARENA, THE ADDITIONAL CONVENTION CAPACITY AND THE CONVENTION HOTEL WILL RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLIC BENEFITS; AND

(6) PROVIDING FOR OTHER MATTERS IN CONNECTION WITH THE FOREGOING.

Who ever wrote this, gets an "F". So, is this what the Ordinance is trying to convey:

- LSU plans to build a new arena.
- LSU plans to build an arena with the capacity large enough to hold concerts, conventions in addition to basketball, gymnastics, volleyball...
- LSU plans to build a hotel for the new arena
- LSU is requesting that the River Center to remain at it's current capacity so that the River Center will not compete with the New LSU arena.

I am not holding my breath. The ability of this state to plan and actually construct needed infrastructure is a F grade in my opinion.

No,

The city had a times discussed revamping the River Center. This basically says the LSU Arena project(new or renovation) would satisfy the scope of a River Center revamp, making it unnecessary. If that happens, the would trash an effort for it and no hinder the LSU project.

4/5 Outline basically getting rid of the river center arena to be replaced by convention space and/or possibly attracting a hotel on the site. Think the Hilton/Riverwalk/Convention center model in Nola.

Likely a new PMAC right? Or the current PMAC will close for some time for a major renovation and they need to use the River Center for a while?

Also, the Cow Palace isn’t just sitting empty. It’s actually used for shite & I’d imagine it would cost a shite ton to get it in any kind of shape to host sporting events.

They acknowledge a proposal about a potential new LSU arena for sports and entertainment (i.e. a new PMAC), nothing about conventions.

quote:

- LSU plans to build a hotel for the new arena
- LSU is requesting that the River Center to remain at it's current capacity so that the River Center will not compete with the New LSU arena.

Completely false. There is nothing in the agenda or the proposal they reference that says anything about an LSU hotel. They only say IF the LSU arena is built, they will not hold events with an attendance larger than 3500 at the existing River Center.

They do authorize the mayor to come up with a strategy (they do not mention funding, so its extremely early) for a possible convention center and hotel, but that has nothing to do with LSU arena.

Supermoto, thank you. You basically demonstrated that Ranters lack all reading comprehension skills.

SWB wants the new arena, and acknowledges it will be a net win for all of Baton Rouge. She is prepared to sacrifice the RC as a competitor for events, as she should be. That is what this is about.

It's happening.

Incorrect. Read the full agenda. It's about allowing the new arena to not have to compete with the RiverCenter for events.
