Would we have been more successful against MSU in the spread, probably not. Because we don't have a QB fast enough or strong enough to run it effectively.

why not run a modern rushing scheme that isn't the spread? like what alabama uses (single back, multiple TE/WR combos, etc)?

you can run the ball without relying on the i-form and 2 TEs or twin WRs. miles forces LSU to run this, though

I don't disagree.

Miles just needs to humble up and let Cam run the offense.

Miles said. "It’s execution really, of stuff and all the things we’ve done in the past.”

Really Les?

So we a new team basically, new backs, new receivers, new qbs and they should execute the same ole plan. We are dead in the water.

i wasn't trying to pick on you

this board has devolved into groupthink that offense is either i-form or the "spread" (no mention of what type of spread)

Duh... the good kind of course. The one where they score all the points.

I agree. He says execution. Execution!? We have a veteran line, Spring practice, Fall practice, 3 games into the season and he says the problem is execution! By admitting execution is the problem after all this time is admitting coaching incompetence and negligence.

In what fricking magical scheme will 7 guys on the O-line be able to block 10?

See, I think you see the term "scheme" and assume it means running the ball against a loaded front.

When Miles says "scheme", he's saying that he is sticking to what he has always done.

What reasonable people need to realize is that, with the right personnel, Miles' scheme is one that works (see last year).

What Miles needs to realize is that, when the right personnel doesn't exist, falling back to running the ball into a loaded front might not be the best alternative...even if the other alternatives are also not great.

The reality is, this offense is going to struggle against any quality defense whether we throw it more often or not.

No doubt that execution is the problem offensively and defensively - but the best defense is a real powerful offense all of the time - not three and out most of the time.

Les is a good coach but stubbornness is absolutely one of his virtues - he still needs to recognize that a play call other than run left and run right when the opponent loads the box should be considered - we're still too predictable the majority of the time.

He can say this all he wants, but his stubbornness will be his downfall

Just as stubbornness was the downfall of Dinardo. Ive never seen such a group of premadonnas aa in college football coaches who are so hell bent on proving their points to a fault.

I think he meant that the scheme was to ball control and time of possession to keep msu off the field. Too bad it didn't work out and resulted in 3 and outs with msu driving down our arse. Brilliant.

The only way to keep msu off the field is to play some defense.

Miles is delusional. Does he think the front seven will suddenly play like a stout SEC defense? Wow. I do not see it happening. Look for LSU to get mauled by running offenses. This has been the case thus far this year. MSU has a good team. How good remains to be seen, but it is not chopped liver. The remaining schedule looks rougher than MSU.

Good discussion guys. I think that Miles just believes that his team can out-talent/out-execute/out-"want" the other teams. That worked for quite a few years, but the talent gap has closed such that will no longer suffice. The best teams are also out-scheming their opponents as well.

Our offense doesn't seem built for his 22 sets etc. Seems they are built to spread teams out not pound 9 man boxes 2 yards at a time
