Isn't grimes' scheme a zone blocking one?

Zone blocking schemes are good for read option/pistol/spread offenses aren't they? Why would Miles bring in a guy who's system doesn't fit what the teams trying to do?

Great point, add to it he recruited two QBs who primarly played out of the shotgun in HS and are used to reading defenses while back away from center

Coming from a big Miles' fan, of which I am certainly one, this makes me sick. If he is just blowing smoke then ok and let's light it up. But nothing makes me think he will change his philosophy at all, three yards and a cloud of dust. But, I will stick by this team because I am and always will be an LSU fan, but nothing is gonna make like what I am seeing

See, here is what will happen the next few weeks: LSU will run its usual offense and due to much superior talent demolish NMSU. Then along comes Auburn and it is Mississippi State deja vu' all over again. Sure as heck hope I am wrong, but I doubt it.

Never been a negatiger in my life, this sucks...

It's funny b/c he gives Chief all the freedom in the world, but the OC has to sprinkle some Miles in his playbook. It's amazing that he gets proven guys to come to LSU to be the OC. I guess the money is too good to pass up.

what bugs me is that we have 2 QBs who made great plays and good reputations in HS as mobile, dual-threat quarterbacks who made plays with their feet as well as with their arms..

Anthony Jennings is about as "dual threat" as Jamarcus Russell was.

actually, if true, it can be a good thing; that is unless the problem is that the players suck.

I don't think the players suck and it appears miles doesn't either. that means if execution improves so does the team. I know people hate the run on first and second down every time (and so do I) but we did it last year too. it's just that it worked a lot, even with all those bodies "in the box"

It is obvious that neither of them are 100% comfortable running an I-Formation, stand-in-the-pocket type offense...
But (sadly) obviously, this one pocket of reality is not obvious to CLM.

This we can agree on....wouldn't have mattered if OJ, Adrian Peterson, and Emmitt Smith were all in the same backfield together, they still would have got canned.

When Miles said LSU's "OTs were dominant" and the "Gs and C were good" against MSU, what game was he watching. I'm at a loss, anyone with a brain obviously saw this was not the reality. If by chance it was, then what is wrong? Perhaps scheme, formations, etc., I sure as hell don't know. Which is it Les?(36 carries for 89 yards).

I've always supported him, but damn.

It's more nefarious than denial. It's the statement of a man refusing to take responsibility and who is willing to throw his players under the bus.

Well, it sure doesn't look like the solution.

The play calling is so ridiculously predictable that anyone watching from the stands or on TV knows exactly what we're going to do. If that in itself wasn't sad enough, in order for such a play to work, it must be executed perfectly with little to no margin for error. Since when has a Les Miles-coached team ever executed anything flawlessly? More often than not, it's a stumbling, bumbling comedy of errors.

I'm beginning to think he really doesn't understand the concept of changing the scheme to account for the fact that the other team will also have a severe want to execute, thusly at times preventing LSU from executing, no matter how significant LSUs want for execution. For example, if the other team has a DL that can execute most of the time, but DBs that don't execute, perhaps change the scheme to increase the chance of LSU successfully executing, and prevent the opponenent from executing their scheme.

And prevent LSU fans from executing themselves after having to watch a total shite show.

When miles hired Grimes I didn't look into it much. I know that the AU fans on the SECR kept saying that it was a bad hire, but didn't pay much attention to it.

Looking at his background I'm starting to wonder why miles even considered him. Grimes' system doesn't fit what miles or Cameron want to do, at all. It makes zero sense to me at this point unless miles and cam want to begin the transition to a spread/pistol offense, which I seriously doubt.
