Man can I make this observation about Jimbo without being harpooned?

As a long time LSU fan, I love me some Jimbo Fisher! Great former engineer of some of the best and most fun to watch offenses we've had in recent history. Oh, and I hope everybody knows he's a terrific guy and good family man as well.

That said, is Jimbo our very best choice to replace Les at this time? Jimbo has done a good job down at FSU, and has gotten his natty. However, his FSU teams have never been dominant, and have won A LOT of very close game in a markedly weaker conference over these few years. And that has been with some strong recruiting performances over those years as well. I really like like Jimbo, but IMO he will not be our very best choice to come in and give these great recruits the best head coaching staff that we could bring them. I think this hire needs to bring a new culture here that's been absent for many years. A new standard that's never been seen here before. I just have this feeling that bringing Jimbo in will not produce the kind of real impactful change in culture that our programs really needs now. Now, if Jimbo gets the job, I'm all in behind him, and improvements on offense I feel will be a certainty. I just don't know if he is our absolute best choice.

Based on your criteria, name one guy who is better than him.

Better take another look at that 2013 team again.

You lose me here.

2013 FSU won every game besides the BCSCG by 20+ points. And they beat the #1 SEC team in the BCSCG.

As has been stated before, FSU didn't shell out a lot for assistant coaches. LSU will.

As long as Jimbo hires a great DC, (which we all know LSU has no problems paying top dollar for) he will be extremely successful

Honestly, overall I think he would be working with more talent at LSU. The QB spot for this class is a question mark, but we still have BH, Jennings is a Senior, but we do have Danny Etling. Etling is a good QB. We also have Justin McMillan and If we can find a QB for this class that is either a starter or a great QB that can be developed in 1 year we will still be looking good.

Just remember we still have a great chance a bigger DL. With Ed Alexander in the middle, Devon Godcheaux could play DE in a 3-4. Plus with guys like Shavar Manuel, Stephen Taylor, Rashard Lawrence and Rashan Gary still in the mix, we could have a big DL whether is a 3-4 or 4-3 D. I could see guys listed as DE in our class playing LB in the 3-4. Most would be freshman, but Arden Key could play LB and most definitely will in the NFL. He just isn't big enough for a true DE. We also still have some great, big LB's still looking at LSU. We are loaded right now with DE/LB hybrids.

13 was as dominant as you can get.

I get what you are saying, but very few teams just run train on people for the entire season.

the 2013 FSU team was pretty damn good. average margin of victory was 39,5

4th in total offense 7th in total defense.
2nd in scoring offense, 1st in scoring defense

First Non-SEC team to beat an SEC team in the National Championship in the BCS era.

Everytime I think of Jimbo Fisher I think of the 2001 offense and how awesome it was watching Rohan Davey sling it down the field. We haven't had great QB play since Jimbo left. Anyone who thinks that he can't succeed here with a great DC and great recruiting is too stupid to argue with.

How about one of the very top offensive coaches in the game? A Kelly, Briles or Patterson? And promote Coach O to DC to keep him here so we can insure our tradition on defense continues. I would just love to see what one those offensive minds would do with this kind of talent, with seeing what they do with so much less!

It's fine you ask questions..

But he would be the best hire that is even possible.

#1 He is proven to produce tremendous college quarterbacks

#2 He utilizes every position on offense, he has a rb in contention for a Heisman right now.. and he still emphasizes incredibly talented defenses..

#3 He is an elite top 5 recruiter when it comes to HC's.. Yes, LSU recruits, but getting a NC caliber coach will only help in recruiting.. and the better you recruit the easier it makes everything.. and he recruits the South very well, but not just the south.. he has national appeal.

#5 You, like others question his close wins and discredit him because he's in the ACC. The thing is though, he is still a proven winner and the ACC may not be that great, but I believe h2h vs the SEC lately they have had their number.. and the SEC seems down any ways lately..

You don't want to bring some hot up and comer without much experience with where LSU is currently at.. These guys often do not work out.. Fisher has national appeal status.. Just like Saban, and just like Meyer.. He is right next to their national appeal.. and that wins over top recruits..

The thing with Fisher is AT worse it's no different than the current trend.. and AT best the sky is limit here with him and the resources of talent..

Fisher is undefeated in all his bowl games aside from the playoff last season. That in itself speaks to he has his team well prepared with time and against quality teams.

Plus he has proven experience, YET he is only 50 years old!

I mean my goodness.. what more do you want? Of course every coach is going to have something you can nit pick at.. but you can't really nitpick at a guy who went 2 straight seasons undefeated (regardless of conference), won a national championship, won all his bowl games, brings in top 5 recruiting classes that emphasizes both sides of the ball, just incredibly balance at all phases of the game, young..

Meyer wasn't always perfect at UF, but he brought them 2 championships.. He's in the Big 10 now and he has lost games there, while also having undefeated-like seasons with 1 championship.. If Meyer had been in the big 10 first with the exact same success of 2 undefeated seasons and 1 championship.. would people question if he was a good fit for Florida? Would they worry he couldn't get it done in the SEC and would drop games? He would still come in to UF and probably drops games here and there, but he would eventually still be a national championship caliber coach..

Jimbo is about as premier of a coach there is. He's a winner.

Jimbo is one of them.

Btw, Patterson is a defensive guy. Meacham and Cumbie brought their offense to TCU last season.

have you not paid attention to what happens when those great offenses run into any kind of defense?

723-170

Kelly, Briles, Patterson, Miles, Saban aren't even close in having that dominant of a season.

For reference:
Miles best is 2011: 500-158
Saban best is 2012: 542-153
Kelly best is 2010: 611-243
Briles best is 2013: 681-306
Patterson best is 2014: 604-247

723-170

Not dominant. Ok.

Assuming that was 2013? Good stat BTW. Like I said before, I'm certainly not heartbroken if Jimbo gets it. I would just love to see us get the best offensive mind available, and a guy that will bring the program a great sense of pride back, and still manage to maintain a culture of great defenses as well.
