Thank you, LSUTigerBait. This means so much to Louisiana residents, but, you already know that.

i took the opposite route. Grew up in LA and moved to Texas. Almost every day and every week people ridicule the fact that I am from Louisiana, we've all heard them. And they always ask, why does everyone in Louisiana worship LSU.
Amen to that!! I have always had to defend my Louisiana background & French heritage. I do it with great pride and it doesn't take long for folks to realize you can't rattle me...

I'll be at Brightside on Wednesdays!

But for real, I appreciate all the compliments on the article. After reading numerous things on that website with people wishing for another Katrina, I felt it was my place to come in and say my part. I didn't expect to get any responses much less see it on here but for that I am grateful. Feel free to put it on your facebooks but beware, I might figure out which of my friends also have no life!

Great thread! I was born and raised in SE Louisiana. The only time I have ever left was to vacation. As nice as other parts of America are, especially the mountains, which I love, I have never seriously considered living anywhere else. Louisiana will always be my home, God willing. We have the nicest, most genuine people here. Sure, we have our problems, but doesn't everyone?

as a diehard lsu fan in texas i think this pretty much sums it up. theres not a single thing i disagree on. they look at new orleans as katrina and make terrible jokes about being able to swim. they dont understand the city or lsu and its sad

LSU was the shining light in the 30's also. My grandparents moved here from Merryville, La. so their kids could go to LSU. They were dirt poor but LSU sports was so important to the family. Gave them something to rally around. Huey Long had opened up LSU to any student who had a high school diploma. Three of my uncles graduated from LSU. Kind of ironic that my dad and his twin brother didn't. They helped put the older boys thru school caddying at City Park.

I was in bed and passing the time on my iphone when I came across this thread. I had to get on the laptop right away. What a post LSU tigerbait made.

Quite possibly, the best post I've ever seen about LSU.

Greatness right there LSUTigerBait. I am so proud to be an LSU Grad right now. Awesome!!!

"I have always had to defend my Louisiana background & French heritage."

Anyone making you defend the state you grew up in or your heritage is a jerk and should be told to kiss your azz! imo

This post really hits home for me!! I was born and raised in Louisiana, and I didn't leave her until I joined the NAVY after I tried college for a year. I was able to see some beautiful and awesome sights along the way and after getting out, I came home briefly and then moved to Texas for work. Been here since 94 and even met my wife here. The first time I took her home to meet my family, she could not get over the beauty of the countryside were I was from. She then could not get over the slower pace of life and how genuinely friendly people were. When we had to head back from our vacation, she told me that when we are at the point of retirement, she wanted to retire to Louisiana and live out the rest of her life there. She now wears the P & G with pride and she will definitely tell someone where to go if they say something about it. She about had a heart attack when her grandson told her that he was a Longhorn fan!!! LOL!!! I told her the other day that once it gets into your blood, it will always be there and that there is nothing in this world that can get it out!!

I find this amazing. I have been removed from the NOLA area for 20 years so this dislike is sort of new. When you consider all the "oil field brats" that grew up in both states AND the close relation that both states have, I think it is amazing that Texans have such negative feelings for LA. Personally I was born in Houston, moved to Grand Isle, then to NOLA, then to Houston and then grew up in NOLA (20 years). I have always had fond memories of both states. I guess things have changed. My first favorite team was UT, but after living in NOLA, and the passion of the tigers, LSU quickly took that spot.

I think what people don't understand is the difference in state pride between the two States. Everyone has it, but Louisiana and Texas are for two different reasons.

Texas: Takes pride that they are the flagship school of Texas. State with a self-sustaining economy, plenty of money, lots of jobs, great education system, and a very unique southern feel. They feel that their school represents the best state in the country and therefore, they are better then everyone else.

Louisiana: Not a great economy (not horrible mind you), horrible government/politics, lots of low income (high income familys dwell here as well), and definitely not on any top lists of places to live. However LSU is the bright spot and therefore LSU gives every Louisianian something to brag about.

It's stuck up pride vs. representation of culture pride.
