That was one thing I was thinking of when I put the total team passing yards to give an idea of how productive the top receiver was relative to the team.

Percentage wise, Reed had 48.6% of 2001 team yardage and Davis had 47.4% in 1986. Carson had 46.4% in 1977.

Like you said, there are many factors including

Offensive coordinator/scheme
run/pass play calls ratio
effectiveness of QB
offensive line giving QB time to throw
having other great receivers on team (i.e. Landry/OBJ, Chase/Jefferson, Nabers/Thomas)

Clayton is the one who brought the toughness and relentless blocking aspect of the WR game that we enjoy at lsu. He had bad intentions for the opponent and it didn’t matter if he was getting the ball or covering kickoffs and punts.

I should clarify that when I said "I remember Scott Ray, and 1992, unfortunately"... Remembering Scott Ray was not the unfortunate part.

It was the 2nd year of Curley ball and boy did it suck.

What's crazy is you could combine the totals of 2009, 2010, and 2011 to make the total of just 2019. It's nice to have an exciting offense at LSU, unlike Les's boring 3 and out offense that just wanted to keep the game close enough to win in the end.

I will never forget when Landry went down on a kick return and blow up the runner. Clayton and Landry were tough and fearless. LINK

I don’t think the bowl game yardage was included in the 80’s. I’m not sure about 2001. If that was the case, Davis might be a better candidate for the information I presented. Carlos Carson was unreal too. He could blaze.

Reed was a machine… And he wasn’t especially fast…

ETA: his Y.A.C. was off the charts.

This. Josh Reed played 5 less games than Nabers and has 356 more yards than Nabers in an era where it wasn’t pass happy like it was today plus all the defensive advantages they have today.

It’s like people didn’t start watching LSU football until 2002.

Josh Reed 2 bowl games
2000- Georgia Tech - 92 receiving yards.
2001- Illinois - 239 receiving yards

Josh Reed - 3336 Receiving yards. 33 total games. 1999-2000-2001 including 2 bowl games. No bowl game in 1999

Malik Nabers - 2980 receiving yards. 37 games. 38 games if he plays in LSU bowl.

356 yards to break Josh Reed all time ACTUAL RECORD AT LSU

It’s why he needs to be on the “QB wall.” Imho, they should add him when they add Jayden Daniels.

Mett had Les and damn near these numbers.
Matt had a much higher qBR and completion percentage than Davey yet you bums cream on him. It was short passes to Reed and Reed doing his thing like versus Bama.

Eric Martin was 1 of my all time Tiger favorites. No one had the balls this guy had to go in the middle and sacrifice his body to make a catch. This guy was nails and he went on to the Saints to continue his feats, where Bobby “The Cannon’ Hebert almost got him decapated several times.
