I don't have the exact quote, but after LSU stomped Illinois in the Sugar Bowl one of the Illinois reporters wrote something like "There are bars on Bourbon Street that don't stay open as long as Josh Reed."

He was one of those guys that always fell forward. So you might tackle him at the 35, but the ball would ultimately end up placed at the 30. I mean like every time. Cecil Collins was the same way.

I vaguely remember his playing time. My memories from Wendell Davis stem from pretty solid play on Tecmo Super Bowl with the Bears. That defense was stifling, running game solid, and Jim Harbaugh couldn't hit a Walmart if he was standing in the parking lot.

That's 7 players with over 200 yards. 20 players recorded a reception for the season (including 1 by Joe Burrow) and a whopping 9 of those recorded 10 or more receptions.
From a passing/receiving standpoint, it was the equivalent to over 2 seasons of good-to-great passing game and close to 3 years of more typical pass game production for LSU.

I remember Scott Ray, and 1992, unfortunately.
Wish the OP would have gone back a few more years to see how Carlos Carson stacked up. Great work though.

I actually met Scott at his wedding (well, rehearsal dinner)--I was friends with his wife and my girlfriend at the time had a part in the wedding. Super, super nice guys, and went out of his way to talk to me and make me fell welcome, even though there were way over 100 people there. Anyway, he's probably 8-9 years older than me, so I was 12 or 13 his JR. or SR. years. But I was a die hard even then and remembered him playing. He told me some Curley stories. But I would have never in a million years thought he actually led the team in receiving 1 year. I remembered him being like a 4th or 5th guy. Guess I was wrong.
Though that was around the time that Curley--somehow--landed that stud 4-headed RB class (Jay Johnson, David Butler, Robert Davis, Robert Toomer?--Ithough Jermaine Sharpe was in that class, but it looks like he came the next year) and probably just ran the ball a shite-ton. Had a lot of other RBs on that team too. Although, we had Chad Loupe and Jesse Daigle as Jrs. Not great, but could actually throw a forward pass. Anyway, good for Scott. Great guy and I'm glad he's got that distinction for 1 year, even though that number is doesn't hold up to today's standards.
BTW, looking at that '92 roster, that freshman class was pretty impressive. And Curley had already had 2 bad years, so not sure how he pulled that off. Not knowing who redshirted, here are some notable freshman on that team other than the RBs I mentioned:
Jamie Howard
Tory James
Sheddrick Wilson
David LaFleur
Mike Calais (loved that dude, thought he was gonna be a huge star before injury)
Gabe Northern
Some other big names on that team. Jesus, Curley sucked.

curley could recruit some but could not coach. i'll never forget the segment they ran on WAFB channel 9 one day on the news. maybe it was 1993 or 1994. had a fan watching practice telling curley through the fence

loved watching davis with hodson. i remember well as a kid. was a great combo like davey to reed. he was not fast. only ran a 4.7 40. but he had great hands and ran great routes.

another great WR for LSu that was converted from RB like eric martin and devery henderson. did not have great speed. clayton was faster in 2001 but josh had great hands and route running and was the master of the elbow pushoff(instead of using hands) without getting flagged for OPI.
he was also deadly after the catch because his running back skills kicked in with his vision, jukes, and was tough to bring down. made him deadly once he caught the ball.

Carlos Carson led the team in 1977, 1978, 1979 with 552, 568, and 602 yards. He had 10 Tds in 1977 but only 2 Tds in both 1978 and 1979. I think 5 of the 10 were against Rice in that famous 77-0 game in 1977. I remember listening to that one on the radio with John Ferguson on the play-by-play.

Do not discount the fact that some of these guys were in different styles of offense. Landry and Beckham had Les for example. Davis and Martin had the offense from the 1980’s. All of that matters.
You would need to add in the bowl games for those like Davis and Martin.
Reed is the one that sticks out the most. It was the best single season I’ve ever seen from a WR in my many years of following LSU.
