Colin Jeter and Foster Moreau as LSU’s clear-cut Nos. 1 and 2 tight ends heading into fall camp, which should hardly come as a surprise.

Behind Jeter and Moreau is senior DeSean Smith and sophomore Jacory Washington, who are expected to maintain reserve roles in 2016. LSU will also see Class of 2016 signee Jamal Pettigrew in fall camp, one of the top tight end prospects in the nation last year.

so two prep All-Americans are behind two very lightly recruited talents

Tight end is one of the toughest positions to judge when recruiting. Consider how many schools passed on Ladarius Green. He went to ULL and now has been in the big boy league for 5 years.

Well they couldn't be worse, so this isn't really going out in a limb.

They are at the too because they are better blockers than Washington and Smith.

The articles you generally post are good, but I don't know why they are constantly on the recruiting board when they are usually about current team members.

This is so simplistic.
TEs need to on WR level with pass catching, along with good block execution.
If they can't do both, you telegraph TE route and might as well insert a quicker, better route running WR instead.
OJ Howard killed it because of deception from being in most blocking plays, not because Bama just decided to throw to him..

Hopefully this is Desean Smith's year to shine, we need to throw him the ball more like we did against Notre Dame!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say no.

Throwing to the tight end for LSU is a "trick" play. I don't even care though. As long as they can block, that's good enough for me. TE's struggled blocking once Gordon went down. Hopefully with another year they've shored up their blocking.

Not a strong passing unit though. Built to block.

Smith is running 3rd string, I dont think in any way does he have some sort of breakout year.

I know it's asking too much, but it's insane to me to think a guy with his size and skillset was basically completely ignored for 4 years here...because well, you know, blocking yadda yadda.

In GoodOleLess's offense TE's are just another word for Offensive Lineman. If they aren't willing to block, they could be capable of catching 100 balls a year, and Desean Smith probably fits this category, and your arse would still be on the pines. I just don't see how he keeps getting them (TE'S) to come to Baton Rouge.
