What happens if we add complexity back to the offense knowing Mett can handle it, and he gets hurt?

Rivers will HAVE to be ready then OR Miles will have to run a less complex, more run oriented offense with one of his QB's that have those nice feet. (Randall or Liggins God help us)

Tiger Nation, just get down on your hands and knees and pray to whatever God or gods you believe in that Mett doesn't go down with a serious injury.

Wouldn't hurt to send hate mail to Kiel's mom as well.

There was nothing wrong with that offense.
Until Bama showed just how easily it could be stopped.

You do realize that he was talking about the play action power I offense that we were running under Lee, right? Bama didn't stop THAT offense. If were going 3 and out for a half, I would have preferred to see our RB's running it into the line.

With a qb this year Lsu OF will be much better than last year. Mett & Phillips can throw the ball. It will open the running game. All bama had to do on the 9th. was to put 9 in the box because they knew we couldn't throw.

We still moved the ball on Bama using that scheme. It wasn't until we used Jefferson as our main RB when Bama shut us down.

Who else stopped LSU running that offense?

No one did. The offense didn't start fricking up until we went with Jefferson and ran a spread option, QB draw, QB sneak, QB rush, QB power running, QB passes to the flats, what are deep passes again? offense.

We started with a great offense and running game last year. We didn't finish with one. If you are referring to our "emergency" offense that included a power I / single back with play action then I'm on board.

I hope we stick to the same offensive philosophy we had this year minus the BCSCG.

With a QB that can think quickly and make the throws that offense will be deadly against anyone, as long as the D can maintain the level they played at this year.

zone blocking is the easiest blocking scheme to implement scheme wise.

And we already do it regularly.

It wouldn't be all that much of transformation, IMO.

There was a long article last year about how dynamic our rushing attack was because not only do we have multiple backs, we use multiple blocking schemes, move between each of them effortlessly and all of our backs run in every style, so there was essentially nothing to "key" on.

When you really think about, the "spread" formation makes a lot more sense for our personnel heading into next year. We're losing our best blocking TE with no distinguishable replacement at the time. We're losing another TE. So we're now down to 1 TE who has actually played significant meaningful snaps and a bunch of guys who were recruited but haven't proven anything.

We are also returning OBJ, Landry, Boone, Wright and a host of RBs.

There's no way of knowing exactly what the coaches told this recruit (and no way of knowing if it was just a little white recruiting lie), but it wouldn't altogether surprise me if the staff said, hey, we're gonna employ more 4 WR sets, and throw it around a bit more because we now have a QB we can trust.

Spread is a formation, not an offense. All different types of offenses are deployed using the spread concepts (which is essentially just spread everyone out so they have to defend more of the field). Rich Rod and Chip Kelly use spread rushing attacks. Leach and Holgorsen use spread passing attacks.

You can run a balanced, downhill, power rushing attack out of a spread formation. It may not be what you classically think of that (2 TEs and a FB), but it can be done.

Regardless, we aren't going to throw the FB/2 TE offense out the window. We've been "multiple" for the past several years and I think Miles has a want to continue doing that.

Orrrrr, we could use the same offense we ran this year, using 4-5 backs to completely wear out the opposition, give Mett(the 1st year starter) a bunch of easy reads in the play action passing game, keeping the other teams offense on the side line. You know, the same philosophy that won 13 games this season, and 11 the season before

the problem i have with this is, what happens when you have to throw it to win? now youre treading on unfamiliar ground.

We need to work on throwing it a bit more so we have the confidence we can do it when we have to.

I suspect we will with a better QB.

UF and AU won MNCs doing it, so I guess they disagree. Of course, they both used their QBs as running backs

And who just happened to be some of the best runners/pretty good passers you'll ever see. And we ain't got one.

I think the spread sucks donkey balls. In my opinion it's not really football it's just chaos. Just 'cause it works sometimes doesn't make it time-tested, sound football. By whe way, when is Saban (ya know, the guy who just won the last 2 of 3 'ships) installing it?

Utilizing a "red-gun" type of spread in the two minute drill could be quite effective given the abundance of skilled flankers on the team along with an accurate passer with the ability to read defenses. Imagine teams having to prep for LSU's power running, play-action game(because that will be the primary offense) but still have to game-plan for an effective spread passing game as well. Fricking nightmare for opposing defensive coaches if they go there. Quite frankly, that's a variation of the gameplan the Saints employ in running one of the most prolific offenses in NFL history.

My bad. Meant to say "I". For some reason I like to throw "power" in front even though it doesn't belong.
