I love the spread, but you have to have some real offensive talent to run it effectively and not just at QB.

Do you think Texas Tech, Hawaii, Boise State, etc have better talent than LSU? They all run variations of the spread "formation."

Running a power offense from the shotgun is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.

UF and AU won MNCs doing it, so I guess they disagree. Of course, they both used their QBs as running backs and we won't be doing that with Mett.

We've already done some of that here. I don't really see Miles changing his style from "multiple" though. He likes to provide a variety of looks.

And it's not like we would only come out with four or five wide everytime. And like someone said I don't think it will ever be a strictly spread offense. It's probably not too difficult to run the power game, as far as complexity goes. A multiple formation offense will give opposing defenses that much more to prepare for, and if something isn't working changes will be able to be made.

There was nothing wrong with that offense.

Until Bama showed just how easily it could be stopped. We got lucky in the first game and caught them off guard when JJ came in the game. Suddenly, they weren't prepared.

For anyone that thinks that we are going to outright scrap the Power-I in place of spread formations, get real. I'd be willing to bet that Bama used a decent amount of spread philosophies and formations this year, too.

I would be all for it, especially if we bring back the WR screen that used to work so good with Early.

I'll be honest, my heart dropped every time Jarrett Lee started looking in the flats or at short posts.

I think the biggest issue with the spread is some of the zone blocking that the spread uses. The different blocking schemes will probably be the biggest issue.

My only fear is that I remember what "multiple looks" turned into back in....whistle...delay of game...

See LSU ... you let Kevin Sumlin and Kliff Kingsbury into the SEC West and the place goes all to hell.

i don't think the inside zone would be any kind of an issue. EVERY team in college (including LSU) and the NFL runs the zone. I even saw Georgia Tech run a variant of it off of their veer path against miami a few years back. gashed the shite out of them. we just block the backside C gap player with a TE rather than read him or slow him down with the boot.

uh, yeah. Accurate qb with an arm to make those short throws. Quick wr's who can play in space and make people miss. Guys who can beat 1 on 1 coverage and wr's who run crisp, sharp routes and can read the coverage and identify the route adjustments needed quickly.

LSU may have the talent, but its more than just talent. You have to have a scheme to get it working, and schemes usually take at least 1 year to fully implement.

zone blocking is the easiest blocking scheme to implement scheme wise. Personell wise, it requires quicker o lineman and a coach that gets them on the same page. Zone blockinh scheme is a basic hs type blocking scheme. Everyone is responsible for their playside gap, and the line moves in unison.

its a shame that you can't distinguish the difference between overall talent and talent in a system. When it comes to a spread air raid, yes those teams are more talented than LSU in that system. They've been running those systems for years. Is TTU more talented than LSU in a pro style offense? frick no. They don't have the personel. Is LSU more talented than OSU or TTU etc when it comes to a spread air raid offense? No. Thats why teams don't just switch systems all willy nilly. You have to recruit towards the system you want to run, and that takes a few tears for coordinators to get the right personnel in.

interesting. At first glance, it might almost be unfair to spread out a defense with a legit passing threat and hand it off to a guy like hilliard between the tackles with the size of our line.

force defenses to pick their poison. Give Mett the freedom to audible to take advantage of it.

with this QB, line, and stable of RBs, this should easily be the best offense to take the field at LSU. WR is the only questionmark since RR left.

Orrrrr, we could use the same offense we ran this year, using 4-5 backs to completely wear out the opposition, give Mett(the 1st year starter) a bunch of easy reads in the play action passing game, keeping the other teams offense on the side line. You know, the same philosophy that won 13 games this season, and 11 the season before.

Miles needs to do like he does on defense, hire
quote:

someone and turn the offense over to him.

It seemed to work for defense.

Team is a lot better off when Miles keeps his paws off it.

Hire assistants and let them do their jobs.
