Just thought everyone would want to know that we are featured tomorrow, Thursday, on college football live.

I'm curious if we get The respect we deserve or if they continue to be haters. Wonder if they will mention that we had THE hardest schedule last year of ANY team? Very interested to see what they say. Especially since they just got finished swallowing for Bama today

They're just going down the preseason rankings.

They'll say some good things, I doubt many, and then will focus on 1/9 and in an amazing twist, they'll hype the team they just talked about the previous day. Just like Fox news, anything to stir up the hornets nest and try to keep people watching so they get "good" ratings.

I wouldn't expect too much coming from those jokers. I'll be stunned if it's actually a respectful feature on us. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

ESPN hates LSU.

You disagree, Carl?

I'm not trying to flame. ESPN cannot say anything good about us.

The "kill yourself" response is a bit extreme though. I never had a problem with your posts.

LSU is getting all kinds of media love, and is ESPN's preseason #1.

If ESPN hates LSU, they're being very clever
about it.

The last thing I saw had USC at #1, us at #2.

It's nothing to get all bent out of shape about. Preseason rankings are silly.

But I stand by what I said, I will be shocked if ESPN gives us some credit.

That kill yourself thing was out of line though.

It's a message board, geez.

ESPN's Updated Preseason #1 Preseason rankings are silly, and so is message board hyperbole. It is therefore quite likely that Hot Carl doesn't really wish you to take your own life.

I agree. It was just one fellow's opinion and I didn't take it literally.

Not pissed off at you, Carl. Just relax, man.

We all cheer for the same team.

Perhaps, but "ESPN hates LSU" might also be a bit overboard. If I'm not mistaken that was HC's implication.

At any rate LSU is capable of winning every game on the schedule this season, and IMHO will win most if not all of them. You will get plenty of exposure from ESPN.

It's an inside joke that has been on this site forever. That was not overboard. That's why I said it.

You said it best yourself, it's a ratings game. Higher ratings=more ad revenue= better for everyone at ESPN.

ESPN has been playing this game for several years now, just don't let their bullshite bother you

Totally. Because being ESPN's preseason #1 is brutal.

First off, I believe Carl was referring to the Fox News comment? Which is fine, bc this isn't the politics board, so take the comment over there. Could be wrong though, that's just how I read Carl's post at first.

To the point though, is there anything more tired than whining and complaining about everything that ESPN does/doesn't do? "They love Alabama, they hate LSU, they give too much attention to Tebow..."

You're kidding yourself if you think that ESPN, just like any and every other business big or small in America, is out to accomplish anything more than make as much money as possible. If you are not in business to make a profit, then you won't be "in business" much longer. I am not denying that ESPN sensationalizes many of their topics, or has commentators on that have opposing viewpoints, or promotes Alabama and Nick Saban and Tebow and the Jets...for all the whining that everyone does about it, ESPN has obviously calculated that those topics bring in ratings, which brings in money, which leads to them continuing to focus on same topics and storylines.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Because ESPN makes such a huge profit, it allows them to hire more people, open up new avenues of entertainment, etc. It's why capitalism is great. I don't see many people complaining about the aspects of ESPN that they enjoy, like the fact that you can basically watch over 30+ top-tier college football games on any given Saturday, for free, on your TV, phone or computer with ESPN3. You think any of that would be possible - the labor, equipment, and money that goes into that - if ESPN wasn't making a ton of money.

If people didn't want to watch the programming ESPN puts on or the stuff they talk about - then they wouldn't, and ESPN would find another way to maximize profit and market share. But ESPN is #1 because they attract the most viewers with what they do.

What's even better, though, is that now with the internet and thousands of TV channels and radio stations basically available to anyone that wants them, you can find sports coverage tailored exactly to what you are looking for. If enough people feel the same way you do about the coverage, then a market exists and someone will step up and fill the void. Again, capitalism. This isn't Communist China - you don't want to watch ESPN, then don't. So please quit the crying and complaining, because whatever it is you are looking for that ESPN isn't doing for you, you can find it somewhere else. This board, and TD as a whole, are exhibit A.

Geaux Tigers....and, America. F-yea.

I hate the storyline soap opera ratings game that ESPN forces. For example, MLB isn't about MLB, it's about the Yankees and Red Sox. They've squared away on Nick Saban and Alabama being the Yankees of college football.

The way that ESPN treats sports, they apparently don't believe that the teams are compelling enough in their own right--so they marginalize the majority of teams with paltry coverage and opinions. Instead they just hitch up to their prized horses that they have anointed to drive every storyline and be the heir ambassadors.

The worst part is when they politic to actually maintain and enlarge their storyline-fed agenda, such as when they pushed Bama into the title game. On the air of multiple ESPN shows and ESPN broadcast games during conference championship game weekend ESPN declared that it was mathematically impossible that anyone besides Bama could play for the #2 spot in the title game. Ignoring possibilities such as when LSU jumped #2 Georgia in 2007 to play for the MNC in 2007. Lies lies lies. Yep still mad. haha

The point is that ESPN sees Nick Saban as the new Bear Bryant and as long as that story line is running, their ratings will be maximized. So they did what they had to do, and they will continue to do so.

They can shove that "point" where the sun don't shine.
