The combination of media ego and preseason rankings has started to bother me during this era of college football. I feel like ALL media outlets, including ESPN, are out to "prove" their preseason ranking predictions correct.

That attitude has benefitted LSU (2007) and hurt the Tigers (2011). These sportscasters seem to build their credibility on being able to accurately predict who's going to be in the BCSCG. It all comes down to ego--they have this weird need to prove themselves correct. If someone can come up with a cure for human ego, well, there it is...

As for the show, they talked up LSU pretty well, but made a pretty big point of emphasizing our question marks (especially QB and WR). Raved about our defense and special teams, but really spent about 75-80% of the time talking about how our offense (meaning Mettenberger) may or may not be for real, and that our season will turn on the answer to that question.

Nothing real shocking, nor particularly insightful, and all pretty obvious. A little more critical of our "unproven" talent than I've seen them be with other programs, and way critical of Russel Shepard. But pleasantly little skewing for the moment. Whether that continues into the season of course remains to be seen.

Good wrap up.

I will say I was happy that Jesse Palmer, who I think has really become one of the best analysts over the past couple of years, finally added a little perspective to the conversation when he interrupted the questioning of Mett to remind everyone how great our running game was, and will continue to be.

He reminded everyone that Mett doesn't have to be a savior. Just give us a bit of an added dimension with a consistent deep threat that we lacked against better defenses (Bama, UGA) last year.

Also, how lame was Pollack's homer knock on Mett, saying "I've seen this since he was a young kid, he has virtually NO footwork or mobility."

Is that why he was ahead of Murray at UGA Dave??

The BCS recognizes it as a split and many of your more rational Tiger fans do as well.

Man you had me worried there for a minute. Until I went to the BCS website. Whew. According to their records USC did not play in the BCS championship game that year!

USC is listed as playing in the championship game twice (one win/one lose) and both of those games are listed as vacated for cheating! I searched all their records and according to the BCS website. USC does not get credit for a single title!

But man you had me going to there for a second. I still wasn't satisfied so I drove straight to LSU and sure enough the crystal ball is intact and was never cut in to two pieces. whew!

And WHY should Mett fricking even NEED footwork?

We're gonna loosen up defenses with our SIX very good tailbacks and 270 pound fullback, then Mett will step back and throw about 25-30 passes a game (if needed); and should rarely be sacked, if even rushed that much......

He did say something to the effect that his footwork issue came from watching Mett years ago when he was younger. Truth of the matter is Metts ability to move within the pocket is one of his strong suits from what I have seen. The only knock against Mett is lack of big time div-1 experience.

Seriously other than that what do you view as his weakness other than that? And he has excelled in all venues he has ever played in.

I can't blame people, even tiger fans for not "knowing" that Mettenburger is a great quarterback. Few have followed his career closely until the spring game. All I can say is just wait and see.

Its a shame, despite a so many blow out games in 2011, that Mett didn't see more playing time last year.

I have said this many times--to the point everyone is probably sick of it. Anyway here is to seeing an offense that at least has rhythm this year.
