or NBC news doctoring the Zimmerman 911 call or CBS and Dan Rather falsifying George Bush's National Guard record just before the election.
Now you know the rest of the story.

CFBLive has already declared Bama will win it all; what's left to say? The season is over; we can't beat the Great Satan, even at home, at night in Tiger Stadium. Woe is me.....

ESPN sees Nick Saban as the new Bear Bryant

Oh right. Bear Bryant was notorious for backing his way in the Natty undeservingly while not winning the sec. I think the Bear won the SEC 9 times in the 70s. Saban has won the sec at Bama once.

Lsu fans just overreact. Lsu is the consensus preseason 1 and we are still not happy because they state fact that Bama will be good.

Ed Cunningham said this on CFBLive, which is one opinion. I honestly think Herbie and crew are going to say that LSU is stacked, which we are, and that if Mett can open up the passing game then it's going to come down to beating Bama at home. They will also probably mention the importance of how the team and coaching staff reacts post 1/9, which is a valid point.

First off, I believe Carl was referring to the Fox News comment? Which is fine, bc this isn't the politics board, so take the comment over there. Could be wrong though, that's just how I read Carl's post at first.

To the point though, is there anything more tired than whining and complaining about everything that ESPN does/doesn't do? "They love Alabama, they hate LSU, they give too much attention to Tebow..."

You're kidding yourself if you think that ESPN, just like any and every other business big or small in America, is out to accomplish anything more than make as much money as possible. If you are not in business to make a profit, then you won't be "in business" much longer. I am not denying that ESPN sensationalizes many of their topics, or has commentators on that have opposing viewpoints, or promotes Alabama and Nick Saban and Tebow and the Jets...for all the whining that everyone does about it, ESPN has obviously calculated that those topics bring in ratings, which brings in money, which leads to them continuing to focus on same topics and storylines.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Because ESPN makes such a huge profit, it allows them to hire more people, open up new avenues of entertainment, etc. It's why capitalism is great. I don't see many people complaining about the aspects of ESPN that they enjoy, like the fact that you can basically watch over 30+ top-tier college football games on any given Saturday, for free, on your TV, phone or computer with ESPN3. You think any of that would be possible - the labor, equipment, and money that goes into that - if ESPN wasn't making a ton of money.

If people didn't want to watch the programming ESPN puts on or the stuff they talk about - then they wouldn't, and ESPN would find another way to maximize profit and market share. But ESPN is #1 because they attract the most viewers with what they do.

What's even better, though, is that now with the internet and thousands of TV channels and radio stations basically available to anyone that wants them, you can find sports coverage tailored exactly to what you are looking for. If enough people feel the same way you do about the coverage, then a market exists and someone will step up and fill the void. Again, capitalism. This isn't Communist China - you don't want to watch ESPN, then don't. So please quit the crying and complaining, because whatever it is you are looking for that ESPN isn't doing for you, you can find it somewhere else. This board, and TD as a whole, are exhibit A.

Geaux Tigers....and, America. F-yea.

Espn has LSU number 1 because they deserve that spot. On paper it's not even a question. Don't act like espn is giving us love. They had USC ranked number one earlier which is laughable. Espn sucks off USC and the gumps every year and it's pathetic. USC could be starting all new players at every position but one and that they would still hype y'all up.

Doesn't matter if he truly deserves the comparison. The story line is what's important, and everyone knows that Saban is THE head coach in college football, so not sure at all why you would try to diminish the supposed esteem in the eyes of the media, ESPN. That is a clear consensus.

I would not care at all, as long as it had no effect, but in college football there is this thing called voting which affects this thing called polls which affects who gets to play in the Championship game. Media opinions especially driven agenda, does matter.

Yeah, there IS A 'thing called voting.' In fact, a group of coaches and human poll voters voted Oklahoma State FIFTH AND SIXTH after they destroyed Oklahoma to win the Big 12 title.

All the other voters voted Okie State no lower than third, except Saban who voted them FOURTH.
Hmmmmmmm.

If this group of BCS human poll voters (not sure what credentials they had) and coaches had voted Oklahoma State 3rd or 4th, Alabama would """""""""""NOT"""""""""""""" have been in the Superdome Jan. 9.

It had NOTHING to do with where they voted Alabama, rather it was this certain skewed faction of weirdly biased people who voted the 12-1 Big 12 Champion FIFTH OR SIXTH.......behind HOUSTON !!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly, and that was well known, that OK State could usurp Bama with enough voters giving OK State a proper final ranking. So the push back for OK State was enacted to protect Bama's position--which appears to be an act of collusion by a sub-collection of voters, as you alluded to. And it was close and tight even then, and the BCS computers which don't reveal their algorithms did not respond as well as it seemed they should for OK State--otherwise they still might have gotten in.

But ESPN certainly drove an agenda, and politicked like real politicians do and they weren't simply bystandards, and that's a shame. Obviously enough voters were convinced that they needed to do whatever they had to do to preserve Bama's position.

Piss off. LSU's preseason ranking like USC's or anybody else's is based on somebody's opinion of their potential. Nothing more.

Perhaps Mettenberger turns out to be a good QB, but the bottom line is nobody knows if he's the next Cam Newton or the return of Jarett Lee's freshman season. He is untested at this level so you just don't know.

Stop getting sand in your vag and recognize you haven't earned anything yet, and despite what was for the most part a very dominant campaign last year, you did not deliver in the championship game. In fact, LSU was the only team in the history of the BCS Championship game to be shut out.

Enjoy your ESPN love, because despite your denial, they are giving it to you.

As much as SC has done to deserve their high pre-season rankings in some polls. Are they all wrong, or are none wrong?

It's inconclusive. You can say that either LSU or USC should be good based on personnel coming back, but if you want to start chest thumping before a game has been played and say "we deserve to be #1" you just look silly. No matter who your team is.
