No game should be considered a "throw away" game this weekend, considering our postseason positioning.

I actually think smith will pitch well. PM has a knack for figuring out who is getting hot in practice. Just find it weird to start him in this spot.

Hope you realize Florida's #3 guy could be a #1 for a lot of teams in the country.

Yeah i know, but Poche gives you a better shot against their number 3 guy.....Poche could be a #1 for a bunch of teams too, just not Florida....they loaded

A number of the Box-tards who dominate these threads come off like that. It does not matter WHAT decision Mainieri makes, it is automatically wrong. It is like they think he makes decisions based on...nothing.

I would be willing Mainieri and Dunn had a nice long meeting where they discussed all of the factors or this weekend, including weather, who is pitching well, etc. and came up with a plan.

And people seem to forget Smith was the pitcher who came in and shut down Arkansas so that the 9-1 rally could happen...so he has pitched well twice in a row now.

Anyways, yeah, some people are just going to be miserable and live to criticize the coach who knows infinitely more about his team than they do. I am glad I am not that person.

Because I don't think it's a good thing we still don't have a set 3rd starter? That I'm just a little concerned we're using a guy in game 2 with only his second start of the season and a 7+ ERA vs the best team in the nation in a must-win series if we want a national seed?

I hope it works out and we sweep. I'd be ecstatic! 20 wins in the SEC this year would be amazing. In fact, 17 is a real accomplishment. Team and coaches should be proud.

But why is it odd or bad for me to question these things? Why does that mean I'm miserable?

Do you ever actually discuss things like sports or just make this same post in 25 various ways every chance you get?

It is not that you question this, but it is the tone with which you do so...and you do it allllllllll the damned time. Schtick gets old. Take a breath once in a while and try to be positive and see the good. If anyone else who posts here...besides you of course..thinks I am wrong, I will apologize.

Paul Mainieri knows his weather, Ell. Wind, rain, you name it, he's on top of it.

In general you seem like you jumped way past the line of skepticism and into the realm of always thinking the worst or the half glass empty. I just can't imagine having that perspective all the time is all

Wind
I forgot that it's the wind that forces the decisions around here. It's what makes players like Fournette and Romero mortals.

Well I will give you that one...

But for real..I think it is your tone that rubs people wrong. You aren't incorrect in wondering about the things you wonder about...

Since 2009 we keep flaming out at the end of the season. It's kind of made a few people weary of these "gut feelings". I truly believe that we lost to a better team only once since then, and that was 2010 at UCLA.

I get that my "negative" posts get more attention. Because no one replies to me 10 times when I said that we'd still be 15-15 after we had lost the first two SEC series and again after losing back to back series to the Mississippi teams... or when I say that PM has done a good job with this team and lineup (although I'd rather Bryce at 1B and Deichmann DHing).

But when I point out Bryce struggles vs lefties or that Smith is an odd choice for a starter, people seem to freak out as if I'm a miserable person for thinking a 0.103 batting average is bad as is a 7.36 ERA. I'd rather discuss these things than have 6 threads centered around a baby animal on the field. Where is it now? What happens if it shows up again?

I will play along here.

Yes, Smith's ERA is bad, but does it reflect how he is pitching at this moment? His last two outings have been good. Sometimes at the end of the season, it can be a plus to throw a guy that the opponent doesn't have a lot of tape on. I absolutely hope that they have a "Plan B" in case this doesn't work and that they pull the plug and eject if this backfires, but I am willing to give it a shot.

I am a numbers guy as much as anyone else, if not more, but sometimes the numbers can be deceptive and can't be the only thing used in making a decision.
