I would not be surprised at all if Jordan Romero wins the job.

Dawson will be our SS (believe that)let Reid, Byrd and Freeman deal with 2B. I still don't know about Diechman
hope he improves over the summer. I'd look at Lochridge
at 3B and give Zardon another shot there. I'm sure both the Jordan guys can hit but don't see much speed from either one for the OF. Maybe Duplantis and Breaux can push for OF playing time if they can hit. Ducote DH and Adams at 1B. Who knows but excited as hell about next years pitching staff potential. F..K Fla. & Vandy I pull for my Tigers, at this point go Virgina !!!

He's that good? I'd be shocked if Papierski doesn't win that job. Would be a great problem to have though.

I guess it is hard to translate JUCO stats to SEC stats, but he can hit. The experience behind the plate does mean a lot though and the kid is a good catcher. What did Pap show you that makes you think the job is his?

Indeed.

A stab at a batting order...

1. Fraley, CF
2. Freeman, 2B
3. Ducote, RF
4. Zardon, 3B
5. Adams, 1B
6. Papierski, C
7. Byrd, LF
8. Deichmann (L)/Romero (R), DH
9. Dawson, SS

Wow...even a batting line-up....thanks!

Byrd in LF? Interesting...

Could Deichmann , Zardon, & Ducote be the leading candidates for Leaders in HR's next season?

The newcomers sure should make things interesting....Can O'Neal Lochridge be the next great player from St.Thomas More HS??

There is no way Kramer comes back with our stacked middle infield unless he is okay with guarding the bullpen all season.

Since I guess this is an appropriate place for it.

Next year's SEC schedule. We miss Georgia, SC and Kentucky. Get Vandy and Florida at home. Go to Missouri and Tennessee.

I'd love it if Zardon could play 3B but after this year I'm not too sure. Though Mainieri does like giving upperclassmen a shot in the field, maybe he'll get a shot at 1B

Also, I've seen other people here suggest one of our infielders could make a move to the outfield. Maybe that is where Deichmann will end up

My initial stab at the lineup.

C- I think Papierski ultimately wins the job with his arm behind the plate, he's grown
up since arriving on campus.

1B- You gotta like Bryce Adams in this spot, the first true 1B since Matt Clark with gap power.

2B- I think in the end will come down to three people Deichmann, Freeman, and Robertson, and even Byrd if he doesn't win the SS spot.

SS- Trust me when I say Mainieri will try out at least 5 guys here...Dawson, Lochridge, Bryd, Deichmann, Wofford etc...

OF- Fraley is a lock at either CF or RF, Ducote will bring a much needed bat and experience, one of the Jordan's will fill the gap with the two freshman pushing for time.

DH- It's Zardon's to lose right now and he's a perfect fit for the spot.

Pitching I wouldn't be worried at all about. The staff will be the deepest it's ever been under Mainieri.

Have dates been announced for the SEC schedule yet?

Not officially no but the schools know their schedules. I was told that we end the season at home with Florida though.

I doubt Fraley is at CF. Maybe RF but not CF. I guess it just depends on who's available. If we have nobody else better then yeah, he'll play CF.

CPM said if we didn't have kade he would've had no problem with pap being the everyday guy. He also said he was one of the most advanced freshman catchers he's had. He's is a switch hitter too which is kind of a rarity at LSU and was drafted in the 11th round. He has the talent no doubt

Why?

ETA Saw your reply earlier.

LSUE to LSU is not a guarantee for success. That said, I think Papierski had a learning curve to see SEC pitching. Even the best HS summer ball leagues aren't going to prep you for that. The kid has talent for days, what I am very curious to see is how he performs in summer ball. Stevenson made an enormous jump from FR to SO. Is Pap sees a lot of pitches this summer, it may be the ticket.

If not, or if he doesn't develop then I hope Romero is ready to jump in and roll. Scivique showed us that a JUCO catcher can make the jump, though I would argue it took a year from him to progress from average to excellent.

Here's to hoping we have a lot of hard (good) choices to make in the field.
