you serious Clark? I cringed each time he came to bat.

The talent is there. He has power to the gaps and runs pretty well for his position. I don't think he is likely to hit over .300 next year, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did. It's pretty difficult to get into any kind of rhythm coming off the bench in random games for an at bat here or there. He will make the jump and have a decent year at the plate.

Sone of yall are too hung up on the Javi thing. Andy was getting praise all up and down from people around here earlier in the season. When we got to the post season the bats got pretty quiet and no one mentioned his name again.

LSU may hit .260-.270 which this year would rank them around 6-10 in the SEC. What people don't realize is LSU was the only team to hit over .300 as a team this season, the next highest was A&M at .299

with our pitching next year that may be good enough to make Omaha.

Pap had the highest on base percentage of any position player this year - .426.

He'll do well.

because Javi fricked up his natural swing trying to change it because he claimed Andrew wouldn't catch up to SEC pitching with it. After Andrew hit so well in summer camp following his freshman year they allowed him to swing with what he felt comfortable with. He could have hit .350 his freshman year had they not fricked with his swing.

They were worried his natural swing wouldn't be able to catch up to SEC pitching, so they changed it to be even longer and slower? Seems legit.

In real life it basically happened the compete opposite from what you describe.

There's multiple quotes, articles, and stories that say otherwise. Or you can just watch video of his swing from high school compared to his freshman and sophomore/junior seasons to see which ones were the same and which were different.

Papierski looked comfortable at the plate the last half of the year. Someone can check but I think he was something like 5 for his last 8 with a few walks thrown in.

It's useless to reason with some people MOT.

I should have been more specific when I said they changed his swing. They didn't like where he held the bat over his shoulder, and adjusted that, which affected his swing. He was very uncomfortable with that stance.

Papierski will be a middle of the order guy next season, he'll be a solid hitter with good power potential. If I had a really really rough guess at batting order at the start of next season it would be:

1. LH Jake Fraley CF
2. RH Cody Ducote RF
3. RH Danny Zardon DH
4. RH Bryce Adams 1B
5. SH Michael Papierski C
6. LH Grayson Byrd 3B
7. RH Trey Dawson SS
8. RH Beau Jordan LF
9. LH Greg Deichmann 2B

Just a very early look. I think Lochridge, Wofford and Freeman could easily be in starting spots too. The infield outside of 1B is really really tough to project.

I also dont necessarily think Zardon stays at 3rd in the lineup but Mainieri wants an experienced guy there at the start of the season to handle that load while the younger guys can "earn it" towards the bottom of the order. I will say I'm still very very worried about Deichmann. This guy came in under huge expectations and is really just short of falling apart in summer league right now.

Edit - I also expect our team next year to run a WHOLE lot less than we did this year. I think we might have about half as many SB, and that's if Cannizaro still wants us to stay pretty aggressive.

CPM said if we didn't have kade he would've had no problem with pap being the everyday guy. He also said he was one of the most advanced freshman catchers he's had.

Not sure when Coach said this. Coach was really high on him early and lots of posters were all over Pap starting at the start of the season. It became obvious early that he was not ready though. I agree that he is talented, but I did not see enough of his play late in the season to say that he's now ready. I hope he is.

Cheers to that. Keep in mind that I did not say that Romero would win the starting job---just said that I would not be surprised if he did.

Paps will be ready very quickly going into next season IMO. He seemed to have good plate discipline for a freshman and he is very good defensively. We have two more great years behind the plate. I hope he can make a solid jump into next season like Kade did this year.

I'm a HUGE Paps fan if you can't tell

Kade made HUUUUUGE strides from last year to this year. Had he not, we would've seen a lot more Pap behind the plate, with Kade probably DH'ing.

I know Brags.

You understand that I am not saying he won't start or that he won't be a great C. But Pap is one those players that many people figured would be a star before he ever saw the field. Coach fueled this with some of his statements pre-season. I hope he steps up big time next year and leads the team back to Omaha.

His approach at the plate, very selective and patient, is the reason I'm optimistic. Throw in the fact that he has a nice power frame, a switch hitter, and from all accounts, a good arm, and I'm positive he'll be a good hitter for us. Maybe middle of the order. I need to research Romero though.

He's actually trending upward on the season though. So I'm getting less and less worried about him by the day.

Would not surprise me too see Deichmann hit close to 10 HR's next season

I also expect Doug Norman to make an bigger impact...esp if PM doesn't pull him!

I continue to have a bad feeling about this

quote:

Latz having ‘setbacks’

Freshman pitcher Jake Latz continues to have setbacks while going on his sixth month of recovering from a stress reaction in his elbow.

Latz, a highly touted 2014 signee, did not pitch this season after the injury flared up in February. The southpaw was expected to compete for a starting weekend spot before the injury. He’s rehabilitating from his home near Chicago, and the staff continues to hope to slot him into a summer ballclub when he’s fully healthy.

“He’s progressing and then having setbacks,” Mainieri said. “We hope to get him out to pitch some this summer — even if it’s 10-15 innings. We’re waiting for him to tell us he’s 100 percent and we’ll get him placed somewhere.”
