Joe Alleva just said on 104.5 that he is not a fan of playing the game on Thanksgiving night. Guess he doesn't "get it" either
i'm not gonna lie, it hurts to agree with him on something.
AD's like full stadiums.

This is fascinating for me to read. We've been playing t.u. on Thanksgiving for a very long time (except for some years where, for instance, ABC decided to put the game on at 11 AM Central on a Saturday, which many Ags thought totally sucked. I have tremendous respect for family, and it looks like (as of pages 1 & 2) that many of you have established customs on that family-oriented day. In Texas, we do to....It just also always involved a football game, and I never heard a complaint from anyone in my family or anyone else's.
If this happens, it looks like many folks will have a problem with it. However, given how incredibly die-hard many LSU Tigers are about their team, and supporting it, I find it likely that many of you will adapt your Thanksgiving rituals with this game folded into them. God Bless, and we're REALLY looking forward to playing you guys, no matter the sport, or the date of scheduled competition.

Everyone is hesitant to change, and as you know LSU football for many, especially those on here who post about it in June, ranks up there with family holiday tradition and causes a conflict that never before existed. For many T-Giving weekend was a big hunting weekend and the Arky game interrupted that.
People will adjust without question if this comes to be. At least for me the news came out of left field so you have to expect a little hesitation. Looking forward to playing y'all as well.

Great post, Ghost, and yes, I do understand that any change to such an important a holiday as Thanksgiving will be especially burdensome on rearranging family planning. Here's my attempt at a 'most salient point' I can make:
Look at Texas....look at how the state completely embraces having a big game (in our own state, anyway) on Thanksgiving night, and also with the Cowboys playing during the day, in the afternoon slot. Please notice that I'm not coping some kind of 'attitude' here, or putting anybody in LA down. I'm saying....look at Texas. Look at how important it is to us. I'm saying that people in LA are every bit as in love with their football as we are....Saints/Cowboys....LSU/Aggies....if it happens, then you guys will adjust to it. And when you do, you will freakin' LOVE it.
It's so important to us that there was a lot of despondency when the t.u./A&M rivalry went away. 'What the hell are we gonna do on Thanksgiving?' many of us asked ourselves, and that's still with the Cowboys playing on that day. I am not so arrogant as to tell you how Louisianans are going to react long term, because your incredible and unique culture is your own, and completely separate and distinct from any other state-culture in our nation....so I really don't know how it will develop. But I ask you to simply 'look at Texas,' and see how Thanksgiving Day games are completely a part of or culture, who we are, what we do, what we're about, and how we spend our holiday together. Over time, I strongly suspect that you might find it the same, and then eventually say, 'How were we ever satisfied with playing on the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving? It's special, it's unique, and it's our own.'

Not to spoil a good rant, but the college tradition of playing on turkey day goes back a loooong time. Time was, ALL big rivalries were played on T-Day: Army-Navy, Ohio-Michigan and yes, A&M-t.u. In the 1930s, FDR pushed a plan to move Thanksgiving up a week in an attempt to boost the Christmas shopping season and the economy overall during the Great Depression. This came after the start of football season, and schools couldn't reschedule the end-of-year rivalry games. It became such a big issue in Texas that the governor and legislature worked to pass a new Thanksgiving holiday, observed in-state on the traditional date, so the Aggies and sips could continue playing on "Thanksgiving." Texas actually observed two Thanksgivings a week apart for several years, until the national holiday reverted back to the original date. I always found that an amusing story. Over the decades, most other schools moved away from the Thanksgiving game, but most have it in their history.
A&M and t.u. always played on Thanksgiving until the Big 12 signed TV deals that forced the game to move to the Friday after. There was much joy in College Station when the game returned to the holiday. The current rumors stem from a pissing match between t.u. and A&M, and by extension, the Big 12 and SEC. DeLoss Dodds refuses to play A&M anymore out of pique, and has "replaced" the Ags with TCU on T-Day. The SEC probably sees an opportunity to make a good deal of money with an A&M-LSU matchup on T-Day that'll be a ratings winner over the sip game, and Aggies are more than willing to play along, if they're not driving the issue themselves.
Personally, I'd much rather open conference play with LSU and play the sips on T-Day, but that won't ever happen as long as Dodds is calling the shots in Austin. I certainly understand your concern over the possible change, but whatever happens, money will call the shots.

great to see so many ags post. hope y'all stick around for what should be a great rivalry again.
let's put it this way: if i never went to games and just watched them on tv with my fam, then this would be perfect.
also i love to tailgate. i like to do so with a complete tailgate krewe and not a patchworked one from people who went out of town to be with their families.
for those two reasons, i dislike it. if you knew how different the atmosphere has been here on just the day after thanksgiving "arky game" from the rest of the year you would understand. i often find myself explaining to 1st time visitors who come to the arkansas game that "it's usually a lot better than this"
i want the tamu rivalry to mirror that of bama, AU, and ole miss.
and it's just my opinion, but putting it on thanksgiving would greatly impede progress towards that goal.
tamu and UT (or TU i guess since i'm talking to aggies) is one of the greatest rivalries in college and sports in general. but that's the way it's been since the beginning of time for the two schools.
y'all could play at 3 am on xmas and everyone would be down to see the burnt orange fall. LSU and tamu have a history but nothing approaching what you have with the t-sips. there isn't the deep seeded hate....yet.
anyway i would love for this game to be played on saturday or i think fri night would be a great spot as opposed to 1:30. you'd at least get a more full stadium with fans heading back into town from family.

Well, your tailgate is awesome and the food is delicious. If the game is moved to Thanksgiving, you can expect me, Mrs. Baloo, and our little Mowgli to show up there in our purple and gold. I am excited to be going to the College Station this year with a bunch of Aggies. I would ay they don’t know what they are in for… but they kind of do.

awww shucks.
but then i have to start explaining now: the tailgate is usually better than it is on that day.
congrats on the addition btw.

You can even go back to the old Michigan-UChicago games, which were huge Thanksgiving Day fixtures at the turn of the 20th century.
I get why people dislike this, but I think it could become a cool showcase event for both schools. And from a personal standpoint, it'd be a great excuse to spend a holiday with the Aggie side of my family.

You must not attend games. I know I won't be going to that game, thanksgiving is a day to spend with family and eat a shite ton.
How is that different than normal tailgating?

I'd prefer this not to happen, but if it must, we won't be going to a game that day, but since we do Thanksgiving at night, it will be more a party and a lot of fun. I can live with it.

I think it's great...Thanksgiving night after the Cowboys game....This game will always get huge ratings. Great for both LSU and TexA&M.
The ONLY issue I have with it is that IMO all LSU games in Tiger Stadium should be played on Saturday night.
I'm fine with the away games being on wierd days (Thu/Fri), but I prefer LSU home games to be on Saturday night. All that said, the entire country will be watching A&M-LSU every year when it's Thanksgiving night.

Especially LSU.
A&M could barely fill a women's soccer team with their talent.

People have to work the day after Thanksgiving and my family does not conduct a prayer meeting during LSU games if you know what I mean. Move it to Saturday or even Friday night!

Great user name, but screw work. This is a one time a year thing. (at least that excuse tends to work for me)

The NFL now has a a night game on Thanksgiving. That game had better ratings last year than Texas-Texas A&M. LSU-Arkansas had a better rating on Friday after noon last year.

No, no they won't This is not 1982. The NFL has a night game, its a big night for movies and Black Friday shopping starts at midnight and a LOT of people are going to get in lines on Thursday night.

i don't know anyone that works on the Friday after TGiving.
You must not know anyone who works in retail or food services. Every mall in the country opens before dawn on that day w/ every employee therein having to work on that day.
Personally, I wish the game would be played on Sat. Failing that, I'd hope for Fri. night.
