Flynn and Russell both signed in 2003.

With Miles, OSU never had a top-25 finish. They never finished better than 3rd in their division, and they won one bowl game (vs. Southern Miss in the 2002 Houston Bowl to finish an 8-5 season) in four years.

From 2001-04, OSU had a 16-16 conference record.

Compare that to their track record before. Or don't. I don't care.

To be accurate, LSU lost 3 games in 2004, which includes the last second loss in the Capital One Bowl that year. But there were about 4 games that could have been losses, Oregon State, Florida, Troy, and Ole Miss. If so, LSU would have finished 4-7.

Most of the kids like the spread/fun n gun/hurry up...etc...

The truth is that the offense that LSU runs has stood the test of time...is certainly no gimmick, and when ran properly, with the right QB....there is absolutely no defensing it because teams get worn down, and you can beat teams in multiple ways (passing or running).

If Mills makes a big difference in that secondary, like we hope...and LSU continues to avoid major injuries (knock on wood) then this LSU team has everything it needs to get the job done THIS YEAR. I would argue that THIS is the year..given our expected losses on defense with Beckwith, Dion, Mills and white....along with probably 2 OL.

Miles inherited a losing program and changed the culture. He also beat Oklahoma in his first two years there.

In the four years prior to Miles being the HC, OSU was 21-24, with one top-25 finish in 1997. OSU finished that season 2nd in the Big 12 South.

Oklahoma State improved with Miles, but it wasn't a dramatic improvement. It seems to me that some are taking what people say about Saban rebuilding at LSU, and trying to apply that to Miles' time at OSU. That is misguided.

[quote]you mean the one who took us from 3-4 wins seasons to a national championship?

All the respect for Saban in the world. He was a major reason our program RESURFACED, and that 2003 team was special. That said, his second best year out of 5 years at LSU ended with 3 losses. Some people get confused and think Saban won big every year. He is a great coach. So is Les Miles. They do it different ways. If you still love Nick Saban, by all means, I don't think anyone will miss you as an LSU fan...in fact.....don't let the door hit you in the arse.

Prior to Miles's arrival, OSU finished with 7 or more wins once in 12 years. He accomplished the feat in three of his four years.

Saban

You are all about Saban. Get....gtfo....seriously. We don't want or need you as a fan.

Miles was successful at OSU, beating I believe a couple of #1 teams.....he built the foundation. Ok. St wasn't loaded with talent like what LSU had with Dinardo. That's a fact. Also, Saban was no hero at Michigan State. He was decent there...but nothing special...just like Miles at OSU. Both flourished at LSU. Now, gtfo with your Saban LUST. He once was our coach...now he coaches for the enemy....respect him...but fk him....and fk you if you continue to suck his dick.

Exactly.

What QB did Saban sign for LSU in February 2004?

What QB did Saban have committed to sign for LSU for February 2005?

You can't go two years in the SEC without a QB commit.
Saban had ZERO QB commits for 2004.
Saban had ZERO QB commits for 2005.

OSU's big-time success has been with Mike Gundy. Not Miles. OSU never had anything close to that kind of success with Miles.

Again, OSU improved moderately with Miles, but nothing drastic. Comparing Miles' time at OSU to Saban's time at LSU is misguided.

Mike Gundy was the coach who helped build the foundation for OSU's success in recent years.

You are comparing two different types of programs...and you can't see it.

What you are talking about happened at Michigan St. also....Saban was moderately successful.....it wasn't until later that they had greater success.

I bet you have saban posters on your wall don't you?

Miles is a good, possibly great coach depending on how you define it, and I say that as a decade long negatiger.
He would be successful almost anywhere, but I still think we could do better.

Before:
Miles - 48-83-3 (.366)
Saban - 57-70-1 (.449)

During:
Miles - 28-21 (.571) Difference of .205
Saban - 48-16 (.750) Difference of .301

After:
Miles - 92-44 (.676) Difference of .105
Saban - 110-29 (.791) Difference of .041

It's a pretty fair comparison, IMO.

I didn't say anything about Michigan St. And it was other posters who brought up Oklahoma St. It seems like an odd thing to even be talking about right now, and I don't feel like talking about it anymore.

Then, they don't have more wins...right.

but TCU

TCU doesn't have more wins than LSU in the past 10+ yrs.

I believe I said "wins". Seems pretty clear to me, but you are right bout 1 thing. The Ducks got 111 this weekend.

Any comparison of LSU coaches and their record of achievement without a like comparison of the strength of the SEC at the time those records were being made, is flawed. How many west titles would LSU have owned in the past decade if we could have one with 3 L's.

We have been lucky as fans of LSU to have both Nick and Miles.
