You play the guy coming back next year. Why in the hell would you not play the QB who will be the starter next year? Going into next year, Mett would have more experience versus anyone returning.

what if next year we have a guy who has 3 years of eligibility left and will execute the same as mett? shouldn't you start him.

It is the duty of some of us here on TD to point out the continual insanity that infects the board, no matter how tired of the debate we are.

More comfortable with a 5th year senior than a guy who has only played a half of D1 football before. Leadership takes longer to learn than skill does. Mett will be good but I'm not ready to throw it to him yet. Not unless we have to.

don't fight the hypothetical. in any event, you think lee's playbook is more exotic and varied? methinks not.

Its a moot point anyway. Mett only got so much playing time against NSU because Lee 'nicked' his ankle. Mett may not play at all against Moo State.

But under this theory, Mett would not be the starter next year. Next year, we will have a different QB with two years of eligibility left, so he will get the start. Right?

.

i agree. this is far and away the strongest argument in lee's favor.

why would that be the best option for that years team, lets say next year is our best year to win it all and we are going to lose a lot of guys the next year which will make it difficult to win it all. Would you still start the sophomore over the Senior because he has more time?

Lee has more game experience, has been through a gauntlet during his time at LSU and stuck it all out like a champ! He has earned his starts

So I guess you are in favor of playing all Seniors no matter how good they are just because they stuck it out? So why is Trent Hebert not punting for LSU? He stuck it out. Why do we play so many young guys on defense versus offense? I know, defensive coaches at LSU play the best no matter the years they have been with the program. Could very well mean why our defense is once again ahead of our offense.

the question asks if there are two people at one position who pretty much are equal in skill who would you start the junior who has no experience or the senior who has off an on experience for 4 years.

I think its obvious which one you would pick.

yes, assuming those same things. maybe my point is this: i believe the lee playbook and the mett playbook are virtually identical at this point, and i think it's not insane to think that, if they were both allowed to play our schedule, their stats at the end of this year would be very similar.

if you think that will apply next year to mett vs. rivers or mett vs. whoever, then yes, you start the younger player.

Did you not see the other 3-5 threads on QB in the first 2 pages of the rant?

do you think the experience of the player is pointless?

This whole thread is ridiculous.

To assume that Lee will perform as well as Mettenberger is foolish and asinine.

experience is nice as a concept, but it's not a virtue in and of itself. remember, jeff george has a lot of nfl experience.
