You're just saying this to say it with no proof or counter argument to the fact that they get a ton of good national press and they lose much less money than other programs for a sport they basically have to carry. They maximize the sport and it absolutely has a positive impact on the school and athletics department.
I disagree
You’re right, there’s no real way to know their true financial gains when it comes to increased national television games (resulting in extra exposure to play the generic college promotional commercial), but I don’t see how it’s worth it
I can’t imagine more than a handful of people, who weren’t already planning to go to UCONN, watching a UCONN women’s basketball game and deciding “hey, I think I want to go to college there”
You’re not going to change my mind
I’m not trying to change yours

How much longer realistically do you see her coaching? How long before we would be looking for another coach. She’s 60 years old now. Does she have the same fire and enthusiasm she had 10-15 years ago?
The resume is outstanding and no doubt would be viewed as a slam dunk hire if we can get her but I’m always just a bit leary on hiring head coaches at that age

i have zero interest in WBB, but these are the kind of hires woodward was brought on to make.

Are you unaware of how dates work, or do you think they lost $3.5 million dollars in 14 days?

Kramer's mom or Pokey are the ONLY two acceptable hires

Just watch any game she coaches and I can guarantee you she does. She's not leaving Baylor though so the discussion is pointless.

quote:Considering it's UConn's most popular sport, you're wrong. The national exposure it gets... game coverage, documentaries, player coverage, etc... go a long way to expose the school to parents and kids who normally wouldn't notice it. They may not want to go there to watch the WBB team, but the name becomes recognizable. You get people googling the school who normally wouldn't. You get Alums paying more attention and more likely to donate because of the positive coverage and spotlight.

This is how marketing works. And it absolutely works. You can say that won't change your mind. But that's fine if you want to remain willfully ignorant.

People on this board would lose their minds if we paid her $2 million to coach women's hoops.
If we competed for championships, People would be ok. The issue is paying millions to a coach that has no shot. Louisiana loves a winner

The bottom line is if we as an institution were cool with paying Nikki Fargas $900k for the product she put out, doubling that to become a power house is a no brainer. It's not like you're talking about several million a year

Yeah let’s invest heavily into a sport that’s bleeds money!

The only woman's sports I'd watch would be beach volleyball and it isn't for the competition.

These are just two of the articles I found on the boost universities get from success in the NCAA tournament. These are schools that didn’t even win.

Well this is certainly a better attempt than your reply before the edit
Most people would argue the institution should never have been fine with paying her that much, even before it was clear she was a terrible coach.
To get mulkey to lsu? Yes, you most likely are talking about several million a year

Kim Mulkey or Roy Williams. Those are my two choices...

You realize she's making over $2 million a year right now?

Its about building a winning athletic program Vermillion. We want all LSU athletics to excel. It only helps the University
This is the only correct answer. Any other answer is a non-starter. Women's basketball can be a close to revenue neutral sport if it's winning and getting into the NCAA every year and making semi-deep runs.
But you need a coach. I don't think Mulkey leaves Baylor. But if you're really a top level AD, you know how and where to find the next Kim Mulkey.

Call it one and change then. Still a no brainier. These semantics posts are just lovely though.

quote:Mulkey reportedly makes $2.3 million now. LSU would need to offer her a pretty good bump to get her to make the move, and even then Baylor might still match it.

Not. Even. Close. If UCONN has the following, you think LSU would be closer?
UConn finances by sport:
Football: $3.3m revenue, $16.6m expenses
MBB: $6m revenue, $9.9m expenses
WBB: $4.5m revenue, $8 million expenses
Other: $2.8 mil revenue, $25.8 mil expenses
