No outs, you bunt him. With the way both pitchers were throwing, on run wins that game. Bunt guy to second, set up for Katz to drive him home.

I can't think of any situation where I would bunt a .379/.427./.561 hitter in the fourth inning.

Do you see the fallacy in this bunt your best hitter so your 2nd best hitter can automatically get a base hit and bring him in?

I'll just say don't bunt and let Bergman get a single and have runners at first and third with no outs.

+1

We are getting some little league coaches coming out of the woodwork here.

Mainieri doesn't play the bunting game, especially not with his best hitters. It amazes me that some folks want to change strategies after 60+ games.

We obviously worked the count as much as possible all night, eventually getting Gray's pitch count over 100.

the players Mainieri makes bunt in half of their plate appearances can't bunt, i doubt Javi's taught the ones who never bunt how to do it

I'm glad Skip bunted Cresse with runners at 1st and 2nd with no outs in the bot of the 9th tie game against Stanford.....oh wait

I don't think you bunt with Breg at that point either, but the thing with Brad was different when you already have a guy in scoring position and I can't recall if Brad had ever bunted in his life.

Lol have any of ywll ever played the game or even know about the game? You dont bunt the three hole, regardless of whose throwing. With a guy like Bregs that can handle the bat thats just dumb. Bunting Bregs takes the bat out of Rhymes hands in that situation. If anything you work the count and call a hit and run. But no you don't bunt here

Wrongggggggggggggggggggggggggg.

Please tell me where the rule in baseball is you don't bunt ur #3 guy. Please show it to me because if you can show it to me them im out of here forever.

In that situation a bunt or hit and run is fine with me but freakin don't tell me a bunt is not the right thing to do. You do whatever it takes in that game to get a runner in scoring position especially with Katz and Rhymes coming up. You guys who think its wrong for #3 and #4 hitters not to bunt don't have a clue. Its the Super Regionals and Gray is on the bump throwing BB's you do whatever it takes and I mean whatever it takes to get a guy into scoring position I dont care who bunts him over.

You don't have a clue. You don't take the bat out of your best hitter's hands.

Miguel Cabrera led MLB in double plays last year, I guess he should bunt with a runner on first, no out?

In a game that you know is going to be a pitcher's duel, a sac bunt when the lead off hitter gets on base is the percentage play at any point in the game,. In that particular situation, if Bregman bunts the runner over to second, you have Katz and Rhymes coming up with a runner in scoring position. Puts pressure on the pitcher and defense and gives two of your best hitters a chance to drive in a run. That would have been our best scoring opportunity up to that point in the game.

Instead, Bregman hit into a double play and that left Katz hitting with 2 outs, the bases empty and the pitcher able to pitch out of the wind up again without the distraction of a runner on base. Second guessing CPM in that situation is very legitimate.

Thank you.

In the situation last nite if Cabrera is up to bat in the World Series against a pitcher that is dealing and one run will win the game im bunting his azz. You can swing away that's you but don't tell me a #3 hitter doesn't bunt that's freakin laughable. Yall all manage like an American League manager.

The level of incompetence in this thread is staggering.

Team bunt is crazy.

I think if some of these guys managed the 2001 Giants, Barry Bonds would have finished the year with double digit sac bunts.

Wow. Just wow. You act like bunting guarantees a run. Let me say it for the 65th time. It's been statically proven to be the wrong move.
