Swing it. Third AB of the game against the same pitcher who is up around 100 pitches. He hasn't fricking bunted all season and he has hit close to .400

so not laying down a bunt all season makes it the correct call in not bunting Bregman.

And you talk like this is a general question and not to this specific fact situation. Normally yes in the 4th you don't bunt your 3 hole hitter. But you're playing against a top pitcher, he's pitching well, 1 or 2 runs will win it. 0 outs, a man ant 1st with Katz and Rhymes next.... Yes we should have bunted.

And no, saying that isn't a criticism of Maineiri. He probably also is questioning himself. I'm not saying he would agree he should have but I'm sure he's thought about it. That said, props to Maineri on his pinch hitter, and starting and ending with Nola.

How did we score our 2 runs?

No I specifically said its the wrong call in the 4th inning to assume you have to play for 1 run. I'd rather let our 3 hole who is one of the best hitters in the country swing it. If we have 1st and 3rd with no outs, that's a pretty damn good situation as well. A bunt doesn't guarantee anything but an out

You say this with the benefit of hindsight. You can't assume after 1 trip through the order that we can't string a few hits together against him

No, I would not have bunted Bregman. In hindsight, maybe it would have been a good idea, since for some reason Bregman was struggling with Gray more than anyone else, but there was no way to predict that. Bregman is our best hitter and so it only made since to assume that allowing him to swing was our best chance to get to Gray.

Our strategy last night was perfect, and it worked exactly as intended. Work the count. Get Gray out of the game before Nola. That's what we did. That's why we won.

9 outs deep in a game is too soon to give up on your best hitter.

Unless, of course, you can see into the future and know your best hitter will hit into a D/P if he swings at the incoming pitch.

In that case, by all means bunt.

Bergman OBP this year- .427
Cabrera OBP in his triple crown year- .393

Now this isn't a huge sample size for Bergman, and Cabrera slugs a bit higher percentage, but I think it is pretty close.
