Personally, you'd rather a great recruiter than a great coach in basketball anyhow. Les is a great recruiter and good coach and he's done just fine.

This team wont get anywhere until they learn how to guard. We basically couldnt defend the trent offense tonight.

They just do not know how to defend with the new rules.

They gave up 93 to UMass when they were called for 29 fouls, and the same thing tonight. They couldn't adjust, so they fouled or let them score.

46 free throws for UGA. Yeah, the refs didn't help, but LSU didn't change a single thing defensively.

LSU cut it to 3 at about the 15 minute mark in the 2nd half.

After that point, Georgia made 11 of their next 16 shots. Four of those misses became offensive rebounds.

Unless you want to, you know... have a better record than .500 in conference play

So that's how butler went to back to back final fours... Wowza.

I would agree with that, but you can't have a bad coach. Some people have pointed out that LSU has struggled to adapt to the new rules. That is his job. They are terrible at adjustments of any kind. And flat out bad at defense. They have the talent to shoot the lights out and beat UK, but also no show versus some piss poor teams. This is not a young team by college basketball standards.

You saying that they are a terrible defensive team is just your typical extreme response after a win or loss. Sometimes this team plays great defense, sometimes they play bad defense. Kentucky and arkansas could barely get off a shot in the paint last week. It was some of the best defense you'll ever see. Tonight they were bad. They are just very inconsistent. We still have a good shot at the ncaa tournament, because we arent the only team in our position losing games like this. Until you prove me wrong i'll continue to think you are the biggest idiot on this board.

UK scored 82 points and shot 44%. I think "some of the best defense you'll ever see" could be pushing it.

The hire was made because Collis Temple convinced all the alumns that we needed an LSU guy. Don't you remember, they were going to protest the alumni game.

The Harrison twins went for 40+ points against Mizzou.... Fluke victory at best.

Odo and Malone are completely worthless

Malone I knew would be a big project coming in but Odo has just been a massive disappointment. You're talking about a guy that led all of JUCO in rebounding and was Top 5 in blocked shots and is just miserable.

No one called it a fluke victory. But it wasn't "some of the best defense you'll ever see" regardless of whether LSU held the Harrison twins under the one extreme outlier example that you came up with.

I meant LSU's victory was more than likely a fluke given what the Harrison twins and Cauley-Stein have done since

I wouldn't call Jones a bad hire. They are a competitive team and he is a great recruiter. He has to coach a lot better than this though.

This was very similar to the UMass game and equally as frustrating. This is a physical team, it's just how they play and when they get a crew that calls every ticky-tack foul and makes up some shite for good measure, it's difficult for them to win. It's not an easy thing to change a team's identity in the course of a game.

They do need to do a better job against that ball screen, but to say that JJ is a bad coach is just dumb.

The man defense has been pathetic all year long. Even mediocre offensive players can beat their defender anytime they want. They only thing that's save LSU at time has been Mickey's ability to be an eraser at the rim.

There were some shitty calls tonight, but this isn't the first time this team has picked up a shite load of fouls. When you're always out of position, you tend to pick up a ton of bad fouls. At some point, you would think there'd be an emphasis to fix the problems. However we're halfway through the SEC schedule and the same issues are still there.

I always get a kick out of "fans" who say that Jones is like Brown in that he's a great recruiter, but only a good coach. Jones has a long way to go to earn the right to be compared to Brown. Come talk to me after Jones takes LSU to 10 straight big dance appearances and a Final Four or two.

I'm not calling it a bad hire, I was just correcting Elleshoe when he said the hire was made because it was cheap and easy. Alleva was beating the bushes, Collis Temple just wouldn't allow it.
