Joe Burrow couldn’t have even won with Miles’ philosophy going into that game.

adding a less mobile QB wasn’t the answer The real question is how did Mett not start in 2011.
So you think that Mett was more mobile than Lee??
I agree on the basis that Lee started the game at bama and couldn’t handle it. It would have been no different in the title game, so why not give the young guy a shot at it.. Though, Mett was the true definition of a statue back there.

In 2011 that was excellent for an LSU QB.

Not excellence, but solid enough.

How about Jefferson's stats in his game prior.

5-13, 30 YDS, 1 TD

THAT'S RIGHT, 30 frickING YARDS. So yeah, maybe don't laugh at Lee's stats?

Jordan Jefferson was 1-9 on 3rd down in the Georgia game.

1 OF frickING 9!

He was horrific upon his return.

Exactly. He was efficient given the structure of the team. Lots of defensive and special teams scoring that year. LSU had the #2 defense that season. It was a Les Miles offense.

Jefferson was TOTAL garbage the last 3 games of the season. The last 2 games he ran/passed a total of 50 times. Total yards...100.

To pull up T-Bob's post from years ago, this seems to be the only semblance to an answer that we'll ever get:
quote:

I don't think your going to like what I have to say, however it is the honest truth. Nothing out of the ordinary happened the night before the game. I understand why it seems like that absolutely cannot be the case. We beat 9 ranked teams, we beat the Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl, and National Champions that year. We won every game by at least 10 points with the exception of Alabama and nine of those came against ranked teams. We set school records for largest margin of victory against multiple SEC opponents. Had we won the National Championship we could have arguably been considered the greatest team of all time. How in the WORLD do you go from this to not even crossing the 50 yard line??? I do not know. Yes, Alabama had the best defense I have ever played against (I think almost two deep played in the NFL) but that is still no excuse for not being able to do anything. There must be a reason... and on the surface there appears to be one. Because we suffered this terrible loss, combined with the drama with my Dad and Les Miles in the press conference after the game, and topped off that myself/Russell Shepard/Jarrett Lee didn't play a single down in that game rumors started to swirl that there had been drama in the week/night before the game. None of them are true. Me and Jordan never fought. I didn't stage a revolution to try to get anyone subbed in. I've heard a 100 different stories of what supposedly took place. Honestly, your guess is as good as mine. I went into that game fully expecting to play. I knew I wasn't starting anymore (got pulled the last four games following a personal foul against western kentucky) but in the other games I was still filling in at all the three interior positions as a rotator. The fact that I didn't play is still one of the most shameful points of my career. Everybody wanted to win the game. The coaches stood to gain nothing by losing and if I didn't play that means that they flat out didn't think I could help them win. That bugs the hell out of me because I think I had proven to them that wasn't the case but that apparently I was wrong. I didn't get to touch the field during my final college football game and I will never be able to get an opportunity like that back. It will always bug me but thats just life I guess. Losing the National Championship like we did was like watching a life time of work evaporate before my eyes. To work so hard and be so close to achieving literally every goal you had set and then to fail so spectacularly will annoy me for the rest of my life. But, all in all I take positive memories from LSU as I had some amazing and truly unforgettable experiences both at the school and in Tiger Stadium.

this blows my mind more than anything about that game ^^^

Miles really thought he could win the game 10-3 or something like that. He really thought if he just didn’t throw an interception, the defense would score points and prevent them from scoring points. That was all he ever cared about going against Bama. And it worked earlier in the year tbh. Barely. But the chances were very small that would happen again. I don’t know that Miles would have won that game regardless off the QB. Unless he changed his philosophy. TBob played (dressed out at least) in that game and has confirmed Miles had this philosophy. We had very little chance in that game.

2011 QB ratings
Jefferson 138.7 vs Lee 152

Jefferson in the Bama championship game had 14 rushing attempts for 15 yards. 1.1 AVG. He was running into a brick wall. He also avg 3.1 yards per attempt passing. What was the point? I'd rather Lee sling it around even if it meant interceptions at some point in the game. At least try. Try something else.

That was the most frustrating game ever and the Georgia game was trying to tell LSU there was a serious issue.

That's the most infuriating thing to me was exactly the point you're making, at least exhaust every option you have at your disposal to win the game. Miles didn't do it and banged his head against the brick wall when everyone else knew Jefferson wasn't going to get it done. Maybe Lee doesn't either, but dammit, try it.

Jefferson was G*d awful

^This. LSU won 14 games in 2011 IN SPITE of Jefferson. Defense and special teams that year were among the best by any team in the history of college football, at least in the modern era. Also Jarrett started the first half of the season and put up respectable numbers.

This is why Saban always waited until later in games to turn it on against us. I remember people always saying “Saban is keeping it close on purpose so we think we’re good.” . Yes, that’s actually true, but not necessarily for the reasons everyone thought. He knew miles would never change his philosophy unless forced. So Saban let him keep doing that to give him no time to adjust. I think we just made some really big plays in 2010 and Saban tried to get it going a little late in the 2011 regular season game.

Then it basically got to the point where they just out muscled us in Miles’ later seasons.

Even in 2013 Saban knew we had a different kind of philosophy so he killed us early. Miles was too predictable.

Having family in Destrehan, the story from the Jefferson camp was that Miles caught Lee fricking his daughter mid-season but with JJ out, and Lee playing so well there wasn't much Miles could do until he threw that pick against bama. From that moment on all three of their fates were sealed.

It probably has something to do with Lee’s career 1:8 TD:Int ratio vs Bama and the fact that our OL was bad in the first half and adding a less mobile QB wasn’t the answer

Who cares, they were terrible with Jefferson. At least with Lee you were changing it up.

0-40 would have felt just as bad at 0-21 did.

Like most fanbases, we cannot keep two simple thoughts in our heads: (1) Lee should not have started the game on 1/9/12 given how terrible Lee looked in Tuscaloosa; and (2) Lee should have started the second half on 1/9/12 given how terrible Jefferson looked in the first half.
