6 of 13 in scrimmage sounds not-so-good.

Sure, the D may be good.

He needs to show significant improvement.

What do people think.

Is there evidence we are not hearing to give us something other than assertions and assumptions that he will be better just because?

I guess we'll just have to wait until the Fall to find out.

I would hold off drawing conclusions based on a scrimmage in the spring. We don't know if there were drops, poor routes etc.

For that matter, it might have been really windy.

my problem is before the 77 yard td, he had 17 yards on 5 completions.

from Santa Claus' thread, who observed the scrimmage:

quote:

Jefferson did alright (hardly played, but did very well when he was in).

Not sure what to make of it-- good or bad on any level. The stats are unimpressive, especially if you take the one big play away, but he didn't play much either. "Allright" is not a glowing endorsement, but then that he "did very well when he was in" sounds better.

I think it will be impossible to know until at least a couple of games into the season.

Coaches often are dishonest about these stats FWIW

Would wait until Fall to make a guess on this. If you remember, the last two springs it looked like the offense was going to be awesome and the QB situation looked stable.

Unlike previous seasons LSU doesn't have 4 cupcakes to pad the record. This year should be a real marker where the program and the talent is.

Show me how good the oline is, and I'll tell you if JJ has progressed. W/o a good oline, doesn't really matter who the qb is.

Roger, I think you and I agree on quite a few things, but I am not sure I buy:

Unless all the pundits are totally missing the boat on talent evaluation, our talent>>>>our record the past 2 years.

LSU's talent at the skilled positions are definitely better than the record over the last 2 yrs. LSU's talent in the o and d lines are not that talented when compared to the better sec schools.

guttata-that's a good assessment. So, do we think that changes this year? We had serious holes in entire recruiting classes on the OL due to attrition and injury. Not sure I agree on the DL-I think to some extent they have underperformed.

people that take any "stats" seriously in the spring aren't really that smart.

I'd think qb stats would be important regardless if it was jv game, 7 on 7 game, spring game, fall scrimmage or real game.
Throwing the ball to a receiver when other defenders are trying to stop you is a worth while stat that shouldnt be passes over as unimportant as you like to make it out to be.
