Why would they not gain ground in the Elo-chess?

Until he publishes his algorithm, I have to assume so. I have defended him and all computer polls for a decade but have finally had enough of Sagarin. Every bit of math and common sense I have points to the opposite of what is algorithm does. Even when I disagree with other polls, I can come up with a logical explanation of what was weighted more to explain something.

Those Sagarin results make absolutely no sense. None.

WVU got their 9th win of the season, but that was not a conference championship game. South Florida finished with 1-6 conference record with that loss to WVU.

LSU has beaten two 11-win teams, two 10-win teams and a 9-win team, so far.

I would think OSU's SOS advantage would easily make up the fact they lost to an Iowa St. team that also finished high in his model.

I have heard rumors his poll will be removed from the formula after this year.. is this just a wet dream or is it true?

If Bama makes the championship bc the Sagarin bumped them to 2, you should seriously consider writing an article about it. With the power of tigerdroppings, twitter, etc, it would spread like wildfire.

Maybe the already know osu is in and he released Fridays poll instead for suspense?

Otherwise, it makes ZERO sense.

That is the way the PTB want it. No accountability while they project which match up will bring the most revenue. It is that simple. The networks like ESPN conduct polling to see where the money is and push accordingly. The computers are the way that the money teams are helped out. If the coach's poll remains anonymous, you know that the fix is in.

As someone has said, if Saban put OSU any lower than 3, all should be able to see and judge. Secrecy is the ally of tyranny.

Considering the publicity ATPB got, I think this is an accurate assessment.

in some fairness to Jeff, doesn't he even state that he doesn't like the fact that the BCS uses Elo-Chess

If he doesn't like that they asked him to make a non-margin of victory poll, then he shouldn't participate instead of saying "I don't like or believe in this, but go ahead and use it anyway"

I think that they should drop the JeffS poll and use the new and improved lsumatt poll ...

I don't understand ANY of this crap. I have no mind for math ... thank goodness for all (ok .. MOST) of you! And of course lsumatt.

I'm starting to believe that this year may upset enough people that we get even more of an overhaul in the BCS system next year.

Is it possible sagarin released this poll "unfinished" so the public can't figure out the BCS standing prior to their unveiling on national TV? Just a question.......
Seems possible considering lsumatt can make no sense of the thing.

Ok I know this is going to be a stupid question but I will ask it anyway.

Is it possible for 2 teams to tie exactly (no matter how unlikely) in the BCS and if it is possible what would happen if OSU and UA tied?

Lots of big words!
In all seriousness...very good question.

No. The poll has been published by USAToday.com.

I just went to his website... For some reason I thought that these were MIT supercomputer algorithm's or something cranking this out... Visiting that website confirms how wrong I was.

Sagarin is an MIT grad, IIRC...

To use an analogy with this confidendial computer and poll crap that means that the results can't be independently verified, I have a friend that leases a parcel of proprty to a restaurant/bar. As part of his lease agreement he gets a percentage of the profits. He has his CPA audit their books to make sure that the numbers are correct because a substantial amont of money is involved He does not take their word for it.

Matt, is this correct:

To determine who should play for the national championship of college football, we rely partially on a formula that pumishes a team for winning, i.e. LSU beating UGA and losing points.

This same formula looks at a team with more quality victories, a harder schedule, and decides it should be ranked behind a team that the formula's criteria itself deemed inferior.

Is that what we can gather from this Sagarin
Poll?
