FWIW I think it would have been really hard for anyone to keep Warrick Dunn in BR at LSU. He needed a change of scenery after what happened to his mom.

Pure genius.
And that is such a manufactured story by sabans spin doctors. He had 100% control of the dolphins. He screwed up and the had espn blame the doctors

Holy. shite.
And I thought I'd read it all on the rant.
We have someone here who doesn't think Bowden did a good job at FSU.

Speechless

the same way Jimmy Johnson did a good job at the U, broke every frickin' ncaa rule in the book, then when the heat is on he leaves, see Pete Carroll, Barry Switzer, Lane Kiffen, etc.,
ETA: Bowdens' senility drove him off this job, but he was extremely lucky with the ncaa, why do you think he sent his kid to law school? in house defense

Serious question about the flight Rein was on. Is his flight the only one ever recorded where the pilot presumably died while on auto pilot and the plane just kept going until it ran out of fuel?
Insane and tragic story no matter how you look at it

I was just a young teenager at the time. I remember being at my mom's house and my uncle coming up the front steps with a sad look on his face. He was wearing an LSU cap. I believed it rained that day in Baton Rouge.
I remember the coverage on WAFB tv. There was another aircraft trailing Coach Rein's plane and the pilot was trying to communicate to the Cessana. It was at this point that the chilling discovery was made. I don't know if the plane wreckage was ever found as it crashed in the Atlantic Ocean not far from where Bo Rein coached IIRC. Gives me goose bumps even today thinking about that tragedy.

that's why the plane was on a NE heading, avoiding thunderstorms that were covering a large part of the state the night before

Is it true that the plane passed over the area his home was in N Carolina while his family was asleep?

His mom died after he was already at FSU.

No shite! The 2nd winningest coach in Division 1 history (actually with a better winning percentage than Paterno) who outrecruited the shite out of 2 other elite football programs in Florida who once had a streak of 14 straight years where his team finished in the top 5........and an LSU fan is talking about the damage he did to the program. LSU has to have some of the dumbest fans God ever created.

LSU fans would've bitched and moaned about him too.

JJ let those UM teams be the "Bad Boys of College Football" and that was pure genius for recruiting...and they were just as bad off the field but JJ was never accused of NCAA violations. Dennis Erickson was another matter.

Was Mack Brown on Bo Rein staff when LSU hired him?? OC I think??

In 1982 an undefeated LSU faces Pitt in the Sugar Bowl and wins.
Pitt starting quarterback Dan Marino's leg is broken in career ending injury, Dolphins draft Boomer Esiason who helps the Dolphins win two Super Bowls.
Dalton Hilliard wins the Heisman, and is drafted by the Bucs who squander his talents. Bo Jackson is in turn drafted by the Saints where he has an amazing career deciding not to pursue two sports and helps them win their first Super Bowl in 1991.
Bo Jackson makes New Orleans his home and runs for mayor of the city in 2002, although facing subsequent ridicule for his mishandling of the crisis.
