You guys that think Bowden and Johnson did admirable, above board jobs in college, are a bit deluded. We don't want any of that shite around LSU. I'd rather see Hallman, DiNardo type of years before we brought that type of vermin into our program.

Yep. His mother died in January of 93. He went to FSU in the fall.

Bo Rein went 8-3 in his first season, then 10-1 the next and finally 11-0 with a Sugar Bowl win and the national title.
After controversy for running the ball up the middle too often, he led the Tigers to a second consecutive 11-0 season and title, but was fired because he didn't win any by more than 2 TD's.

And neither of the Mannings were ever a possibility to come to LSU. Archie wouldn't let that happen
It's HIGHLY unlikely that Peyton or Eli would have come to LSU --- but the primary reason was not because Archie hates LSU ---- I think it has a lot more to do with the fact that the AD's office had made several "bad hires" and when his sons were ready to play college ball -- he could not trust that LSU was going in the right direction.
Now if it were today --- it could be a different story about Peyton and/or Eli playing at LSU.
Also -- don't forget --- LSU was all about Josh Booty the year he and Peyton were graduating.... that turned out to be a serious BUST for LSU, I'd say. Got nothing at the time b/c he went Pro Baseball --- then got an overcofident largely underacheiving QB that went pro early (to avoid being beaten out for the stating job at LSU) --- as a college QB and pro athlete in general - he was a flop.
Eli seemed to seriously consider LSU --- but family ties and Coach Cut (who coached both sons) had a stronger influence.... it's understandable, don't you think?

Not true on the New Orleans part. Stovall did very, VERY well in New Orleans.

Recruiting in the 1980's was almost as dirty as it gets. And to assume LSU is somehow "above" that, is just laughable and blind homerism

So UM guys wore fatigues and carried weapons while the Seminoles got free shoes. That's so much worse than Nemesis Bates stealing a VCR from Walmart, Cecil Collins breaking into girls apartments and Larry Foster snatching purses?
Well then I guess you got your wish. How did you and your moral compass like being an SEC bottom dweller while FSU and Miami were competing for national championships year in and year out?

do guys like Marshall Faulk and Warrick Dunn, for example, stay in Louisiana?
Dunn didn't stay in Louisiana because his mother was murdered in BR. You'd have to change that too.

He had 100% control of the dolphins.
Yes, he did as far as personnel. However, he'd have signed Brees without even evaluating the labrum. After his shoulder was deemed irreparable, there was a further evaluation period in which Wayne Huizenga was involved. That's when Sean Payton called Brees, drove him around showing Katrina damage, and the relationship was on. The rest is history.
Don't argue with me on this.

In another universe, Bo Rein doesn't get on the plane
Challenge: write an alternate history of LSU football over the last three decades
The reprecussions to CFB and maybe PFB landscape may have been epic:
Jerry Stovall stays in fund raising for LSU
Arnsparger, Archer, Hallman, Dinardo, and Saban all end up with different gigs.
Saban may have never ventured south of the M-D line.
Whoever would have been Dolphins coach maybe takes a chance on Brees.
If that happens, the Saints may be in San Antonio or L.A. now.
Of course, had Rein not panned out, WHO KNOWS who would have been coaching LSU back then - Shanahan? Spurrier?
Wow

Would a powerful LSU prevent the rise of Florida St? If LSU is a major program, do guys like Marshall Faulk and Warrick Dunn, for example, stay in Louisiana? Does Peyton Manning come to LSU? (No. Archie hates us - don't ever forget that).
I think maybe we get a Warrick Dunn, but leaving NOLA saved Marshall Faulks life and getting one of the mannings would have been nice but not as necessary as the D-line and O-line players that went out of state.

I don't think any of these guys were coming to LSU, regardless of who was coach.
