You don't have to petition the ncaa.. If he doesn't play a down and has his redshirt available he gets to come back, end of story.

That's wrong on multiple levels. I have no idea what you mean by "has his redshirt". No player can be awarded a redshirt season until that season is completed and its only done by the NCAA. There has to be a petition.

He can definitely redshirt and play next season, the only question is whether LSU let's him rejoin the team. Everyone has 5 years to play 4 and you don't need special permission to use the redshirt year. Don't bring up Robbie Green and Alabama because that was an NCAA suspension and not relevant to this case (this would have been relevant to Shep had he been suspended for the season). Research Daryl Stonum at Michigan.

EXTREMELY pissed after seeing how good Mett looked. Plus Mett only has two years left after this one.

That is wrong. You have to petition the NCAA in every instance. Schools cannot award redshirts on their own.

link?

Pretty sure you are wrong.

People who say JJ can't redshirt are saying he couldn't play at a FCS school next year. He cam and he will IMO.

Always a possibility. I had been under the impression red shirts couldn't be awarded until after the season and only after each school submitted the players names to the NCAA for final scrutiny of their status.

I hope JJ just gets his degree and rides off into the sunset with a good job thanks to LSU. I don't wish anything bad on him, but bringing him back on to the football team now would be a major mistake by Les, even if he is exonerated. Maybe next year as a backup, but definitely not this year.

That very well may be the procedure, but I can't think of a reason JJ wouldn't qualify for a redshirt this year. Regardless of his legal or team trouble, he hasn't violated 1 NCAA rule, and has never used his redshirt season before.

Jerrard Randall will already be more viable as a 'dual threat' than JJ ever was next year.

He is already

Can you quote the bylaw that makes his statement false, or that makes Jefferson ineligible for a redshirt?

I'd feel somewhat indifferent, but I think he will have an opportunity to get some playing time this year, so hopefully he'll be eager enough to get on the field that he won't redshirt.

Right now it looks like the 2 options are ^this^ or the charges will be completely dropped.

Dont get me wrong

I would love for JJ to return and finish what he started. I just want it to be this season.

those fans saying you don't want JJ back are purely ignorant. if Mett went down, our season would be over without JJ. Stephen Rivers aint winning you a national championship as a redshirt freshman. I am in full support of JJ coming back as a back-up.

I agree with this 100%

I'm right there with you, but somethings are happening right now that could either have JJ reinstated in the next week or two or it could last until the end of October. The sooner the better, as far as I'm concerned.

Why would you start someone who would have one year only and not start a guy who has 2 more years and has a years playing time in the system - makes no sense at all. JJ should move on to NSU or some other small school if they will take him. He should not play another down for LSU.
