If Jefferson starts over Mett next year, you'll have a lot of pissed off boosters.

If JJ starts over Mett next year, I won't watch a single game.

Assuming he doesn't play a down this year LSU can petition the NCAA to grant him a red shirt year at the conclusion of the season. The NCAA is the final say on whether or not its granted. Since he broke no NCAA rules he would likely be awarded the additional year.

If I am not mistaken JJ never redshirted. You have 5 to play 4 so he could redshirt this year without petitioning the NCAA. Only reason you go that way is if it is a medical redshirt and crimnal redshirt does not exist. But with that he has never redshirted so why couldn't he?

You don't have to petition the ncaa.. If he doesn't play a down and has his redshirt available he gets to come back, end of story.

Thank you

So...what is the impolite answer?

The impolite answer for me is.....Unless we can have JJ on this years team a game or 2 before bama.....then i hope his career at LSU is done.

I say this because there is not a doubt in my mind CLM will play him over Mett next year....and that would be a shame.

Agreed...

And, while I don't like to think about it, I am inclined to agree with Circle_K_Beggar.

How hard would it have been for JJ to simply grab his teammates, walk away and dial 911 if things were that bad? He showed unbelievably poor judgment for a senior leader, and I personally don't want to see him return.

those fans saying you don't want JJ back are purely ignorant. if Mett went down, our season would be over without JJ. Stephen Rivers aint winning you a national championship as a redshirt freshman. I am in full support of JJ coming back as a back-up.

But would the NCAA let him considering the circumstances?

I've yet to see anything that says he can't redshirt. But I'm with you though, just seems like you shouldn't be able to use a redshirt if the reason that you're missing a season is due to a suspension/legal troubles.

If he's on the roster, he won't be a backup. I'd bet my house on it. CLM has been in bed with the seniors on the team ever since he got here.

The only thing I could see is Mettenberger as the starter with Jefferson as a change of pace similar to Perriloux.

Assuming Mettenberger develops to the potential he has shown, this is an excellent plan, furhter developing an offense to take advantage of the Rivers/Randall combo coming up behind them. A great way to maintain QB recruiting - great pro-style//great dual-threat, alternating every year - up to 5 QBs on campus, with 1 or 2 redshirting and 1 graduating every year. Even with the occasional miss in recruiting, you still have sufficient depth and flexibility to run whatever offense is working.

Obviously not serious.
Mett is a QB and a damn good one. JJ is an athelete pretending to be a QB. Sorta like Kordell Stewart.
I hope that Lee plays very well and can hold his position. By year end Mett will be overwhelming for both Lee or JJ.

Lee has skills to be great if he can shake the ghosts in the closet loose.

Having Jefferson as a backup next year could be a HUGE positive if in fact things work out that way (not saying he does get a redshirt or anything)

If JJ is in that locker room, it's going to be a distraction and cause problems. I'd love to believe that drama doesn't exist with college football players, but they are young enough for bullshite like that to get in the way. Les will not let him back on the team but will help him transfer and find him a 1AA school to start for. JJ back in the mix = baaaaad news IMO.

Dude, you know it's true. Just look at who's playing. It's an all senior starting team. Name one freshman or sophomore who starts.

Name just one.

The OP's question is legit, and I think it could very easily happen, and it wouldn't bother me at all.

It's not like JJ's been in a bunch of trouble while he's been here. Just one night or horrible decision making. If this thing gets plead down to a misdemeanor (which imho is likely, but not an atty), I could see JJ having another year. If he does, there will be a competition in the spring/summer, and whoever looks better in camp will start. End of story.

Surely by now we all see that Mile's is going to take his time, let this process play itself out, and make a decision that's best for the team, while keeping in mind the interest of the player. In my opinion, that's what should be done, and that's what Miles will do.

It's not rocket surgery. Right now he's suspended pending the outcome of a criminal trial. Once that's over, if he's eligible, he's eligible.

Correct, regarding the NCAA but LSU isn't required to give it to him.
