i don't think he would have attempted the pass if there were any less time remaining before the play. but I can't remember what the previous play was, and whether the clock was running before the ball was snapped. I think it was though, with 22 seconds remaining. Which was plenty enough time to attempt a pass to the endzone, and have enough time remaining to kick the field goal if incomplete. For the clock to reak 00:01 after the catch did seem like a unusually long time to run that play though.

So much fail with this question. Is there any wonder why our fan base is looked at as over reactionary!

If 2010 Bama win doesn't happen, Miles is gone.

Assume Oklahoma State makes a field goal against Iowa State in 2011? With at least two NCs under his belt, if not more, are you happy that Miles is the head coach in 2016?

If the refs make the rt call on the missed fg in the OSU Iowa state game, Is Les Miles considered the best coach in college football rt now?

Or if they just say eff it and let TM7 play in 2012 does LSU have another national title?

If Cody doesn't block the fg against Tenn in 09 does bama ever win a title under saban?

You could do this for a lot of teams, but three plays could have changed the history of college football and bama wouldn't be seen as the premier program.

The better question would be, if West Virginia and Missouri would have won their conference title games instead of choking, and LSU didn't have the chance to luck into the NC would he still be here

First of all, all the replays showed that there would have been time on the clock to kick the field goal without a doubt. Second, what if Hill had stuck his head into the line on third and one against Alabama with 2 minutes or so left in 2013 and LSU went on the national championship?

Thanks for answering the question. See, people? It's not hard.

So that answer was something that you had to have someone else tell you? You couldnt come up with that on your own? That single answer is the one reason you started this thread??

What did that answer tell you that you didnt already know?

Flynn to Byrd is one of the top 5 plays in LSU history. Why don't we appreciate the fact that we were able to witness a great play call and even better execution and leave it at that? But no, instead of giving credit to coaches and players for a long lasting memory for most LSU fans, some people want to shite all over it with hypotheticals to push their agenda.

This would mean, not only did we incomplete a pass in field goal range while losing by less than 3 points, but the clock man taking an extra 5 seconds off the clock instead of the 3 extra he took off on the play to begin with.

Imo, they would've put time back on the clock, and we would have kicked a field goal. The clock should've been reset to 0:04 in the actual game, even though it wouldn't have mattered

if that ball is tipped in the air- ballgame. and another very poor example of miles' clock management. it was a toddler playing with matches. whether it was lombardi or miles, it was lucky as hell.

I never understood people who thought Les was crazy for this. After Bird caught that touchdown the clock ran down from 7 seconds to 1. Literally, if it was incomplete the clock would have been around 5-7 seconds left.

I've ripped on Miles for many things, but never for this play. I don't think there were 5-7 seconds left, but I'll agree that at the very least there were 3 seconds left. And the explanation after the game actually made sense. They didn't mean to run the clock down to 1 second, Matt Flynn took for ever to call for the snap. He was watching the play clock and didn't realize that the actual game clock wasn't far behind. This wasn't the current "wait for the play from the sideline that comes in real late", LSU broke the huddle with plenty of time left.

Since when is a 42 yard field goal from a college kicker with the game on the line an automatic 3 points?

check the YouTube link below. The ball was snapped to Flynn with 8 seconds left and Byrd caught it with 4 seconds left.

An equally telling question is what if UT didn't have half the team on the field in 2010? Because the extra men on the field had nothing to do with JJ's complete and utter dysfunction and ensuing botched snap.

BTW it was Lee that led the drive down the field to get to that point before Miles inserted JJ inside the 10.
