The smart thing to do right now is to not sign. With the end of the season approaching, there will be several coaching moves going on and we all know he has the skill level to coach. He's agreed in principle to the terms and will be at LSU barring a better opportunity I'm sure.

He doesn't have a buyout if he leaves to be a HC. Only as a DC. I don't see that changing in the new contract. It could, I guess. I'm not sure of the details.

Because making the TD posters feel comfortable is not on his priority list.

Scanning over a contract for him to sign takes no more than 5 minutes.

I'd be concerned if I were a LSU fan.

Most of the contract is boilerplate. Only certain provisions would change. I doubt the hold up is "lawyer review".

This is the sort of uncertainty folks are going to have to live with having O as the coach. With Saban, people were always worried about him leaving. With Coach O, it will always be about talented coordinators like Aranda leaving.

Like I said when O's hiring was announced - people are comfortable with the idea of O being coach as long as Aranda is the DC. They get uncomfortable thinking the staff could be O, Ensminger and someone like Steele as DC. Is anyone really excited about next year if that is the prospect?

Again, this is one of the reasons why Alleva did a poor job. Anyone could have simply turned the team over to Coach O. LSU literally didn't even need an AD on staff to hire Coach O. I question why we aren't paying O closer to $2.5M rather than $3.5M.

Alleva never intended to hire anyone else. He was simply going through the motions with Fisher and Herman. The only way hiring O works is if Aranda was locked down. He's not. He may or may not stay. We'll just have to live with that.

Probably isn't the issue. Wet signature and him out recruiting is probably what's going on, but I doubt a lawyer only spent 5 minutes on it, which was my point.

Agreed, and I hope this is the case.

What if less than 500? Austin to Baton Rouge 435 miles

I think all indications are he is staying but why hasn't it been "done"? Thoughts?

He's under contract with LSU whether he signs the new contract or not. The situation is the same. It's just as easy for him to leave now as it would be if he signed it already, and vice Versa. But it's a pretty big deal that he's agreed to the new contract AND he's out recruiting for LSU. He's as committed as it gets.

He would owe 50 percent of his remaining salary if he leaves for a non-head coaching job in the SEC or “a Football Bowl Subdivision football program within a 500 miles radius of LSU”.

What don't y'all understand about this? It is not exactly the same. The buyout is presumably less now than it would be if he signs the extension.

He has not "agreed" to the new contract. It is unexecuted.
