Welter is the heart and soul of the defense. He will make us forget about Minter and Sheppard.

No one comes up on the pile and taps a helmet hoping for an assist better than him. I'd say job well done.

I think he played well - on his blitzes, he didn't overrun Manziel - he held his ground and waited for support. He did a good job of contain. He is really not as bad as all of you say.

The entire D rose to a different level today. Next year - next year.

He reminded me of Steltz today...directed traffic and I believe made a few defensive audibles!

No, definitely saw him "over-contain" on one play. Other plays he was just blocked so far downfield that it didn't matter because he never had an opportunity to overrun.

Is Hester the only player to whom a season of experience has mattered? Ryan Baker was a lot better as a Junior and then again as a Senior, if memory serves. Also, he actually played LB.

Hester was a badass from day one, while Welter has shone flashes of competence. Still not sure why we're comparing the two.

What are the chances Welter takes the money and goes to the NFL next year? I can see his lining up skills being valuable at the next level. Where does he project?

When did Steltz go in the draft?

At least that high.

That's bullshite, the kid played his arse off today. All of you assholes have jumped on the bash Welter bandwagon and you don't know how to get off.

He played confident today... It's all about that for him

It's all about keeping offensive linemen off him! The guy is a decent player. He's not starter material, but he'd be a solid backup at LSU if the Dline wasn't getting dominated all year.

Around where Brad Wing went.

He did play well today. I was definitely expecting Manziel to break his ankles a couple times.

i could argue that no lsu player has made a bigger change in an off season than Ali highsmith. He went from a bad, poorly conditioned backup to a starter that played great in a complex system.

This is the correct answer. He did do one thing good, but didn't do anything bad. He's really wasting the potential of a LB with talent would have if put in his place for the whole season.

He hasn't cost us a game this year, much less today.

I only got pissed off at him once so I'd say he played better than usual. When JF threw his only TD pass Welter was right in front if him and maybe could have batted the ball down or tipped it but he just stood there and didn't even put his hands up. But other than that he played ok. Our defense as a unit played great tonight.

If he jumped and raised his hands JFF would have been around him. He did exactly what he was coached to do.

He's not costing us but this is wasting valuable experience for other players. Hatcher was the same way. Jefferson needs the experience over Martin, Mills needs to play nickel only, Barrow should split more time, and the backup DTs should play more to get experience and the starters rest.
