Who's responsible for charting the opposing team hitters and calling the pitches? Our opposition had us down pat. We need help here.

Dude these guys are young, most are pitching for the first time in big time college bb. It takes time to develop new pitches and improve on what you already have. That's basically what he did this year was improve what they already have and ask the players what kind of job he's done for them! Next year you may see guys with another pitch if they can develop that pitch and throw it for a strike or at least make it look like one.
These guys have to learn how to pitch first and that takes experience, some learn faster some take a while. With the guys we have coming in I think we will have the best pitching depth I've ever seen in BR. Where LSU has to improve IMO is at the plate, being patient and not pulling everything, hit the ball where it is pitched and if they make a mistake then use your power. These guys have to get better with the bats and I hope they work em hard this year!! Go Tigers!

If anything he needs to be in charge of ALL pitching decisions in regards to subbing and pulling guys.
How do we know he isn't?

Was a TV comment (and not made maliciously but rather matter of factly) and why he disappeared from LSU baseball broadcasts for a while to let it cool down. Did you guys skip the season and just show up for the CWS?

Please tell me at what point this happened. He did just about every single home game that was on SEC Network +

I did not say Dunn was not a good pitching coach and no where did I dis his performance.
I asked a question and made a statement about some observations that I thought we a little strange.
I was hoping that someone with a lot of knowledge would comment.
overall, I think our pitching was pretty good this year until the world series. lange and poche' carried us and the bullpen performed well at times and at other times, esp the series did not.
I never heard ben mcdonalds comment that was referred to here. I did hear him say that LSU had no real weaknesses except the bull pen. he also pointed outd that it wasn't a major weakness.

i'm watching he and Stallings carefully. I think Stallings has the potential to be a great one. all he needs, imo, is to hone his change and get a little more confidence with his curve.
stallings needs to get some movement on this fastball, even if he tops out at 95 96, if it is straight and has no movement, hitters will crush his fastball all the time. They would likely just lay off the change up and look for the fast ball.

Surprised some of you can pick a baseball out of a lineup...
As Big Ben said, not one pitcher has come to LSU under Alan Dunn and improved from what they came in with. Some have even regressed, but not one has improved. What you see on the mound is what the player brought in with them.
That is all you need to know about Dunn. You can take the opinion of the rant or Big Ben - your choice.
Judging by that retarded statement, you must have been looking in a mirror. You certainly haven't been looking at the games. Are you implying that Nola didn't improve? Check the numbers, Chief.

widely considered one of the best in college baseball. I take it you have a problem with Dunn?
The Rant's memories only go beyond the last game. We lost so therefore he needs to be fired

At the CWS, TCU scored 18 runs in two games against LSU. They scored 1 in two games against Vanderbilt. Something not quite right somewhere in LSUbaseballville.......

Dunn's is a good pitching coach he is good at it..only thing is that he should have the skills to teach the students..

I hear ya. If he is consider a great pitching coach, then does he make the decision who to start and when to pull a pitcher? If he does make these 2 decisions, then I strongly question him as a game time coach. Seems like a pitching guru should make these decisions.

My observation of LSUs pitching has been that LSU has always had guys with the physical ability to gets batters out, but they have struggled with the mental aspects of pitching. At the end of the season too many of LSUs pitchers appear uncomfortable on the mound. They appear hopeful they can get batters out rather than confident they will get batters out. And I attribute this most to Manieri's managerial style.
When he changes pitchers it appears more often that he is doing so because he has lost confidence in the guy on the mound rather than he has confidence in the guy coming in out of the bullpen. And the pitchers sense the lack of confidence from Manieri.

I have heard those that speak highly of him but not convinced they knew their stuff.
Its obvious that with success comes accolades and he has had some good pupils in Gausman, Nola, and now Lange. What struck me strangely in the post season was the apparent problems out pitchers had with location. Our guys had trouble in particular up in the strike zone. It seemed instead of keeping the ball down they were trying to blow pitches by batters upstairs and they got burned. This may have been because they got behind in the count too much...JMHO
