How good of a pitching coach is Dunn?

I have heard those that speak highly of him but not convinced they knew their stuff.

it seems that all of our pitchers have fast balls and 12-6 curves. yes, I've seen some pure change ups (stallings often got ripped) but don't recall any one guy commanding a slider.

who on this team has three very good pitches?

widely considered one of the best in college baseball. I take it you have a problem with Dunn?

Took a pitching staff composed almost entirely of Freshmen and Sophomores and made them into the top ERA team in the SEC.

Well, we were number 2 in the SEC in ERA with really only one "great/elite" pitcher, and just a barely above average bullpen without a closer. He's pretty good

The only pitching coach I would consider to have a better reputation than Dunn is the UCLA head coach.

Time to step away from the keyboard. Go mow your lawn.

My only question about Dunn is does he have any input into game day bullpen pitching decisions or is he only calling the pitches during the game? We seem to have some amazing starters and a solid pen. But there seems to be a clear problem when it comes to deciding who pitches and who comes out of the pen and when to give the hook. Its similar to Miles and clock management. So is that all on Mainieri or does Dunn deserve some blame as well?

BTW he is light years upon light years better than Grewe.

He has a deeper voice than Cannizaro, if that is in relevance to the situation

I understand what you are saying but most "in the know"(whatever that means) think highly of him

If anything he needs to be in charge of ALL pitching decisions in regards to subbing and pulling guys.

Manieiri demonstrated last night he can't be trusted with it

I don't have a problem with him, but I find it odd that I haven't noticed any of our effective pitchers with more than two quality pitches. ok, go 2 and 1/2 with some throwing decent changes. it struck me last night that all of our guys had a fastball and 12-6 curve. I didn't see another pitch and saw them struggling w/o an out pitch.

my question is an honest one. I thought most of our pitchers look like clones of one another.

If Alan Dunn is not LSU's pitching coach the Tigers don't make Omaha this year. Bottom line.

Dunn is not the problem. And there are shite tons of guys in MLB that don't have 3 good pitches.

not as starters, esp if their fast ball barely hit's 90ish. most of some "modified" pitches also and most definitely many of them have bad arse sliders.

Alright, I'll try to explain it to you. Last night, you weren't going to see anyone come in and have command of three pitches because the leash was one inning on pretty much everyone. It's difficult to gain confidence and command of your third pitch in such a short outing. Notice during Lange's start on Tuesday that he didn't gain control of his change up until the middle innings. Before that point, he wasn't getting on top of it, and the change was sailing on him. Once he made an adjustment and settled into the game, he threw it for strikes.

There aren't too many pitchers across the college landscape that have three pitches they can come in and throw for strikes at any time.
