Wasn't Newman throwing a backdoor slider last night for strikes?? With a curve and fastball (although not an overpowering one)? I cant recall it was such a brief moment.

LSU had a great pitcher and a good college pitcher. Once the Tigers got to post season play, the bats cooled off...several dramatically. Look at the BA's at the end of the regular season and now. LSU was fortunate with match ups in the first two rounds despite not hitting much. Once the first game was lost(partially self inflicted) to a very good team, the Tigers were behind the eight ball.

thank you for the mature response.

I understand that commanding 3 pitches is usually something that relievers, esp in college can't do. those that can are starters. I also understand one inning isn't enough time to see all of a guys pitches.

what I do not understand is that, other than Lange, I have not seen a pitcher at LSU command a great change or any type of slider. I find that unusual.

I have watched some, if not all, of virtually every game this year and yes, some of the camera angles are hard to tell and some of the announcers don't know (some are damn good tho). I have yet to hear ben McDonald discuss how great of a change up or how nasty the slider of x is. I do not recall seeing any sliders (maybe I missed some).

I repeat,it looked like (all year) that our relief pitchers are clones of one another (except stallings). we have no side armers, no unusual delivery guys, etc. etc. it's like they all have fastballs in the high 80s to low 90's with a potentially wicked 12-6 curve.

imo, a pitcher that is struggling with his curve is fricked. Lange has a bad arse change and I have seen stallings throw some also (he's struggled with that pitch also).

Dunn may very well be as great as advertised but the jury is out with me.

the difference Dunn made in his first year was outstanding.

you have to look at the performance of our guys. With the talent we had this year, not that much we still had the one of the best ERAs in the SEC. That is a testament to the skill of Alan Dunn.

I kinda wish he take full responsibility of the pitching duties including pitching changes. CPM is Javi when it comes to making pitching decisions.

i'll buy that. and up to the world series it sure seemed these guys were effective most of the time.

I think a agree with you. PM pulling Norman last night drove me nuts. the guy was indeed mixing them up. he was throwing that inside curve that was freezing the batters and then throwing his fastball like a mini cutter on the outside corner. I was pumped and we were only 3 down.

again, i'm not trashing dunn, i'm just making an observation that I find odd. maybe he came in and has decided to standardize our pitching and won't allow the guys to throw something he doesn't feel is good enough yet.

i'm watching he and Stallings carefully. I think Stallings has the potential to be a great one. all he needs, imo, is to hone his change and get a little more confidence with his curve.

I would like to know if Dunn has any decision in pulling pitchers. If he does not, he has to be furious how that CWS went!!

I think he's a great coach although I do have a few criticisms at times. I absolutely hate the way we pitch midweek games for instances.

Not too many guys in college are going to have three plus pitches. Hell that's not even a given in pro ball.

MLB folks as well. Know some with Baltimore and they all speak highly of him. But you don't have to take their word for it; the man has absolutely produced here.

Not trashing Dunn, although u probably think I am, but I feel like this is like the qb situation this past season. We knew before the season we didn't have a third starter and by the end of the season we still don't have a third starter. We have to figure that out for next year. Also need to find a closer. Someone like Ott or Cotton that can come in and shut shite down. That was stallings until his mind got fuked and then that was it.

If we don't figure that out I think we won't even make a regional next year. I am hopeful though with Latz. If he is the real deal and the HS kid then the pitching can be solid.

Surprised some of you can pick a baseball out of a lineup...

As Big Ben said, not one pitcher has come to LSU under Alan Dunn and improved from what they came in with. Some have even regressed, but not one has improved. What you see on the mound is what the player brought in with them.

That is all you need to know about Dunn. You can take the opinion of the rant or Big Ben - your choice.

You're right. It's a shame junior season Nola couldn't have been as good as freshman Nola.
