Delaying the receipt of money is indeed foregoing something. $1 in hand today is worth more than $1 to be received a year from now. That's basic economics. Hell, it's basic arithmetic. I think there are lots of benefits to his staying, financial and non. But you hurt your argument by being wrong on fundamental truth.

Well everyone assumes that he can't improve his stock

But that's not necessarily true. If the RB class entering the draft next year is weaker then he can improve his stock almost by default by being higher on the pecking order of RBs

See I don't think so. It's gonna be good...real good...but eventually Jennings is gonna have to pass and pass well. If Collins and Turner return, the odds are better for it but with 8 men in the box, you can have 4 stud RB's and it ain't gonna matter....without a QB who can make them pay for said box stackage.

Whether by injury, lower performance numbers, or a shortened NFL life, Hill is ultimately leaving money on the table.

This is a very rare occurance. Most have left for the nfl as soon as they have had the chance. You should take off the purple and gold glasses sometime.

Glenn Dorsey, Charles Scott, et al. say hello.

Consequently, we can look no further than Scott as a case study of what can happen when an LSU rb decides to delay pro status for an extra year college.

I heard he feels he owes LSU another great year for sticking behind him through all his legal troubles. Pretty honorable IMO to turn down millions just to clear your name up. Because he really doesn't owe anybody anything but I applaud him for staying

Is it possible that he feels next year's team has potential to be great, contend for the natty, and want to be part of it? This sounds pretty good versus ending up in Oakland, Jacksonville, or some other pathetic team that wins 3 games next year.

Keep going or can you? Like i said, most leave as soon as they can, especially the past few years.

Dude we are going to have plenty of QBs on the team that can throw the ball...... This will only make it easier for him knowing we have the 2 best RBs in the nation behind one of the best OLs in the nation. It's going to be up to the coaches to take full advantage of 8 or 9 in the box and I think we will. We will be fine. Idk about 300 yards a game but 230 sounds about right. This O could surprise everyone and score 40 to 50 a game?? Never know? It's our D that needs to step up!!! If that happens we will be fine!

His off-the-field issues – two arrests – may hinder the running back’s chances for a higher draft selection this year, said Rob Rang, analyst for CBSSports.com.

Another good season and a year-plus buffer between Hill’s latest arrest would only improve his draft stock, Rang said.

Why did Peyton Manning come back for his senior year? Some guys just want to play on the team they are on.

I am sure there will be a big insurance policy on him. Plus, he won't get beat up that much - lots of guys to split carries with.

I am happy for him. He has only been in college for TWO YEARS. Maybe he wants another year?

If he had been at LSU 3 years, he might be ready to move on, but he had to sit that one year out and wait. He might not be done yet.

That's three LSU 1st-2nd rounders (debatable). Sorry I couldn't provide you with even more 1st round names from LSU, especially with the change in NFL salaries and a trend toward early exit in recent years.

Its not about 1st rounders staying. Its the fact that guys in this program hurry to leave no matter what round they are projected to go in.

As crazy as it sounds, if all 3 come back I think we are automatically 2-3 wins better. Not having to replace these guys, and to move Fournette along slowly, will be huge for the program, not to mention the leadership factor.

I also really like the idea of fournette having 2 former HS teammates blocking for him. In fact, Im a little surprised if Turner hasnt considered that his stock will rise, knowing the caliber of RB he will be blocking for next season.

From a business perspective, it really doesn't make sense for Hill to stay. At all. However, it shows a lot about his character and maturity. Maybe he wants to finish his degree? Maybe he wants to keep his word to Miles? Could be a lot of things but waving millions off to come back to LSU says a lot about who you are and how much devotion you have to a program risking your career like that. I have a lot of respect for Hill and hope he has a 2000 yard season next year.

Some people plan for the next six years.

The NFL will always be there. His job will be waiting for him.

But all of them have a chance to improve their value and create memories to tell their grandkids about. When LSU is over, it's over. There's no going back.

No offense, but this is inarguably incorrect. I'd advise almost every kid who isn't a projected first round pick to come back IF you're not a running back.

The lifespan of a RB in the NFL is something insane like 3 years. You're basically doing everything you can to perform, stay healthy, and get to that second contract. You're not making retirement money of your rookie contract.

IF Hill comes back it will be incredible for LSU, and I will be ecstatic about watching him don the purple and gold one more year. However, he will undeniably hurt his NFL future by returning.

if hill has a repeat (on field) of 2013 he will go higher than the 3rd or later rounds, which is where hes going this year. passing up going in the 3rd round or later to come back and go in the top 2 rounds is more money long term. its the character issues dragging his stock down.

you dont come back if you dont have a chance of going in the top 2 rounds the next year.

collins is not a first rounder this year(he could fall into the 3rd which is a loss for him), but he can be next year(or at least a 2nd), which is substantially more long term money.
