I've been busting guys in the chops for months when they get carried away with Key. I figured he'd be good in time but needed time to gain size, strength and comfort with the defense.

Wow, I was wrong! That guy is extremely elusive in the close quarters of a pass rush. He will surely gain a lot of size and strength over the next two years. If so, he'll be the terror of the SEC.

I saw a couple times where he was unblocked, and instead of just running upfield... he did the right thing and squeezed down the line of scrimmage. Savvy player as well. Will be a great one to watch the next couple of years.

Kiki was redshirted as a freshman. Key is light years ahead of Mingo at this point.

I bought into the hype and glad I did. Coach O getting a hold of these young athletic freaks is what made me optimistic. He was better than I expected and may be the most important fresh of the class. There was no answer for that man causing havoc on the end.

same here. Thought people were going overboard raving about a true freshman who hadn't played a down. He is the real deal. Already like Mingo was as a junior rushing the passer but can already play the run better than Mingo ever could.

In his first college game (a road game in the SEC) - I noticed this as well. Now - he did get blocked at times, and they were able to contain him more in the second half, but he did not take himself out of position, generally, with overagressive or inexperienced play. It was very encouraging. He was not a liability on run defense - that's for sure.

As he should be.

Mingo only played 2 years of football prior to signing with LSU remember.

Key's game this week was the equivalent of Mingo's game against Clemson, except he didn't gas himself and not play in the second half.

If Key continues to perform and stays healthy, the comparison will not be with Mingo, he will have far surpassed him.

Key has a bigger frame than Mingo as well. He's 230ish right now and has the frame to easily add 20more lbs.

Mingo was / is just so damn lean. Once he he 235ish, he was shredded and looked like he would have a hard time adding much more weight.

Mingo is probably the better overall athlete though. He really didn't fit our scheme as a 4-3 DE, but to his credit he never complained about it and always played his arse off. But his skill set screams OLB and is at his best playing in space. That said, I think Key will end up being the better player for us.

He went from being someone I was excited about seeing progress as the season went on to being the most talented DE we have on the roster and needs to be on the field as much as possible in just 1 game

And I love how he and Neal complement each other as well.
