i don't give JJ credit for Florida or Tennessee last year. Those were JL's wins

HT all day, HT didnt look lost on the field, I have seen JJ with the clock running down just standing there. I have seen JL not know what down it was I will be glad when their stay at LSU is over

Marcus Randall vs. JJ would be a tough one.

Marcus Randall or JJ vs. Herb Tyler is not. I get that the OP is trying to play devil's advocate, but I wonder if he ever watched Tyler play, because if he did, then there is no debate whatsoever.

Herb in a landslide...we might have won a national championship last season with HT.

ok, to USA fan and others I am NOT playing devil's advocate, I have seen (on tv or in person) most every LSU game for decades...I do admit, I am a big HT fan and also that I think JJ gets a bad rap, but these are just my thoughts and like everyone else, just one man's opinions...in any case, I could be swayed to HT's side ot JJ's, I had forgotten without Lee we would NOT have beaten UT, Ala etc. Buy I still say it is a close race of JJ vs HT, HT was NOT a great passer or runner (both had 80 yard runs that make people think they were "good" runners), before he hurt his foot, Matt M was a better runner than either. Anyway, I have said enough, I can see either side and as is usual on any Baord those who say it is a dumb question and that it is "laughable" dont deserve anymore of my time. Thanks to all who gave decent input...

We would because HT made plays with his arm when we needed it. Like I said earlier in this thread, put HT on last year's team and OP would see how dumb this thread is. HT was a very underrated QB IMO.

I don't give a shite what JJ's stats are running, he isn't a better runner than HT was. JJ also gets more attempts because he is so inconsistent in the pass game. HT could actually make plenty of plays with his arm...

The argument about having KF isn't as clear either. While we all know how amazing he was, HT did help KF out by being able to take shots downfield. JJ does not do that and defenses often stack 8 in the box...

I dont think anyone said Herb was a great passer or great runner. However I cant fathom if you have seen both play how you would not see the decisively better decision making, game management and heads up play Tyler had over JJ.
I seriously doubt very many others who saw them both play would say it is even close.

Tyler was a plus for his offense JJ is a huge anchor!

Your choice but I think you are very wrong. At least Marcus was a leader as far as their other talents I think they are very close overall which puts Marcus ahead in my mind by a good bit due to his maturity and leadership.

I wouldn't want either but Marcus could not play any worse. A Passing rank of 119 can't be much different than 110 so what would we have to lose?

I would prefer not to have to start either as well but if forced to make the choice I would much rather have Randall in the game than JJ.

As a runner JJ may have better stats, but why would Herb have to run when he's got the SEC all purpose yardage leader and one of the top 5 running backs in the history of the SEC behind him? When Herb did run, he didn't fall down the first time someone looked at him. He could break tackles.
I am out of gas trying to figure out what people see in JJ...Herb never yelled at anyone on field for not being able to jump 6ft to catch a pass. Tyler knew what down it was at least.

I would take the combination of Ware/Ford/Gore over Mealey any day. Mealey had 1 season as "the man" and gave LSU a healthy 3.7 YPC, of course LSU was a shitty team in 1999 as well.
