The next two minutes of him and Bill talking about how the wind must be blowing harder than it appears.
"Bill, it looks like there's a magnet drawing things back in here tonight."

good example. And if this was the only example or one of few then it wouldnt be a big deal. But it's basically a nightly occurence.

It was "way out of here," and Rhymes tracked it down in what was described only as "left-center." Not on the track or at the fence. Just in left-center. HAHA

Vs Tulane during one of the middle innings when Charlie had the call, Hawthorne interrupted him to go on and on about a low ball Chinea had caught from I believe it was Hale. It went into the next play I think. He seemed to think it was a great play and that he picked it, which, of course, he hadn't. It was pretty routine.
All Charlie said was, "Okay..." and then had to try and catch up.
I'm to the point where I'm not annoyed anymore. I just feel bad for the guy. You can tell he doesn't want to be there as often as he complains about the length of the game.

Pros: his voice and excitement
Cons: everything else
I'd rather him over someone who sounds extremely disinterested and monotone.
Cough hanagriff

CH is horrible...and they say JH gets sounds disinterested if the game is over 2 hours. CH sounds that way from the beginning.

well no shite. but there is a big difference between fans in the stands and the person who is being paid the properly call the game. what a terrible comparison.
Are you this stupid on purpose?
Serious question.

What's your fascination with Hawthorne? I honestly don't care about how terrible he is at calling baseball because I don't have to listen anymore... but do you know the guy or something? Serious question.

Gladly ...first off your insinuation that he doesn't properly call the games is stupid and just not true.
Secondly... He is Fan.
He's excited just like me and you and everybody else when something good happens in crucial time of the game. Big fricking deal if a boarder line call has to be re-done...
The vantage points in baseball are different.. It's hard to tell exactly what's what on every hit ... It fools the fans the majority of time....
Not to mention a rocket smashed down the 3rd base line that happens in about 1.5 seconds.
Get the frick over yourselves ... Y'all act like somehow him saying foul, then a instant later retracting it and saying fair ball Tigers win! somehow ruined it for you.
I'm not a moron when It comes to LSU sports....I have eyes and an understanding of what's happening...so I'm not obsessed with perfection from the play by play guy.
I want a brand voice and excitement.
Jim Hawthorne provides both and always has.
That's why he is and always will be the voice if the Tigers.
DWI bitches.

Says the kid that whines about the PBP guy.

quote:Um... he makes many mistakes. And mistakes are fine; but you have to be pretty deaf and ignorant not to realize that he's gotten worse.
.first off your insinuation that he doesn't properly call the games is stupid and just not true.
quote:No doubt. Relevance?
He is Fan.
quote:Usually, I'd agree. But he does it on huge plays. The biggest plays. At least here he did.
Big fricking deal if a boarder line call has to be re-done...
quote:I agree. Which is why most would wait for the play to be called... "Ball hit down the 3rd base line and it's..... FAIR! It's FAIR!" Why call it foul immediately if you don't know? That's the exact opposite of what he should be doing.

He was great. But he's not anymore. And that's okay. Nostalgia gets a lot of people. I understand. Nothing wrong with that. But don't pretend that he's still good at what he does (especially with baseball).
