Y'all act like somehow him saying foul, then a instant later retracting it and saying fair ball Tigers win! somehow ruined it for you.

Who said the call was ruined for them? It was funny, that's all.

Wow! I read through 7 pages to see no one has mentioned the actual "classic terrible Hawthorn call".

I don't dislike the guy, just listening to him. That being said, I get off work into my car and the first thing I hear is his voice over my Sirius radio. Since it's the bottom of the 9th I'm gonna listen. What is the first call I get to hear?

I'm blanking on his name, but it was our lead off hitter in the ninth.

Classic Jim screams "There's a hit to right field! (Name) is rounding first, this is gonna be close!!!"

The next statement in a matter of fact voice- "Nope. He's out by 15 feet at second."

Look, I don't hate the guy. But that call is Hawthorn in a nutshell.

I actually don't fault him for the game winning hit, bc it's potentially a close call. It's his head scratching calls and negativity that make it painful.

Bon Voyage-thanks for your service. I hope he enjoys retirement.

In Hawthorn's defense there, the right fielder played the bounce perfectly and threw a cannon llaser line throw right to the second baseman's glove. With perfect execution he's out by a mile. With a weaker play, it would have been close.

Don't know if it was mentioned because I didn't read the whole thread but the announcers also ended the game with "TIGERS WIN! Tigers defeat florida 4-3"

So he wasn't the only one who fricked up

Regardless I've always enjoyed listening to Hawthorne. I will be sad to see him go. Great voice for the tigers even if he makes a mistake every now and then he makes up for it in other ways.

You can't really appreciate how bad JH is until you watch a game in real time and listen to him. I often wonder what game he is calling. If you can't see the game you miss most of his mistakes.

The way he nonchalantly says that's gonna be foul then screams fair it almost gives the impression of an Angels in the Outfield situation.

I listened to him for the first time in years driving home from work yesterday...it was on Sirius Xm.

The number of mistakes he made within just 2 innings was embarassing.

I appreciate his love for the Tigers, but daaaamn.

Tons of govt employees have their jobs for despite being incompetent. Some of us have actually heard a good play by play guy and know what one sounds like and Jim is not!

He has been a hack since he started longevity does not make him good!

shite, but we have some real negative assholes posting on this board. LSU baseball is #1 in the nation and just won a series over #2 in the nation, but the most active threads are two bitching about bunting and bitching about the fricking play by play guy.

Hawthorne has won every fricking award there is to win in college broadcasting including those only voted on my other national broadcasters. So, you are a fricking idiot.

It really seems to get under your skin that people dont think JIm is good at his job.

Almost all the complaints go back to him unneccessarily anticipatig plays. Like the fair foul call. Like fraley's out call. I didnt get to listen to him last night, but im sure there were a few unnecessary errors involving him predicting something that didnt happen.
