During his call on the Orange Bowl he said that the best arm he’s ever seen was Jamarcus Russell. Its a shame he’s now thought of as a joke because that dudes arm was something special. Better arm than all the big name guys in the NFL today, but he just never focused in like he should’ve.

He was also extremely unintelligent.

Watching that interview at halftime of the 07 BCS NC told me he had absolutely no shot at being a successful quarterback in the NFL.

Well if he wouldn’t prioritized cough syrup he could’ve been great

Absolutely not.

He literally couldn't read a playbook. Certainly couldn't read or understand defenses. And he had the worst work ethic the game has ever seen.

Cough syrup was the least of his problems.

His arm strength was insane. There are a few exhibitions of skill that I'll remember forever. Jamarcus throwing 70 yards from his knees and OBJ catching kickoffs with one hand (against UGA, I think).

Yess this needs to be talked about more. That was just as impressive as his famous catch against the cowboys in my book

He’s a lot more intelligent than you think. He operated a real offense and actually made reads which is more than I can say for most college QBs in “modern” offenses.

Farve, Elway, Marino, Jim Kelly, Vick, Stafford, Josh Allen, Mahomes, Aaron Rogers, Justin Herbert and Jeff George are the best arms I have seen in the NFL. All the old timers in my family say Bradshaw and Doug Williams had best arms of all time.

Cunningham used to throw it longer than anybody in those QB challenges. Josh Allen has a hose too but JRuss had the biggest arm I’ve ever seen.

I agree with the old timers in your family. Terry Bradshaw held the prep national record in the javelin. Emphatic yes to Doug Williams, too.

watching JR play in college: he was not the sharpest tool in the shed.

There is no evidence of this while in college. That's why he was drafted #1.

Before burrow his 2006 season was the gold standard of lsu qbing.
He had the highest single season completion % and qb rating in lsu history.

Agree with both of you regarding Jeff George. The man’s release was insanely quick.

Yeah I forgot about him. I would add Warren Moon, Steve McNair and Duante Cunningham after I posted came to my mind for having big time arms.

Dude had a ton of talent, never seemed to reach the level of play he exhibited with his arm. I liked the guy though.
