I hope he isn't to set on the little DT's. (finally got rid of the guy who was in love with little LB's). Would be good to have one starting DT in that 325-350 range (Valentine), then maybe one small DT in that 290-310 range.

That's what an attacking 4-3 is like though. The LBs are going to be big from now on like Alabama's.

I am NOT saying you (or the trainer) are wrong.

But, I did hear Coach O on a radio interview and he was asked DIRECTLY what he was doing in this regard (gain / lose weight) nd what instruction he has given the players.

Coach O said he has not told them anything in that regard. That Moffit was completely in charge for Sprng.

he said ONLY after working the players out in Spring Practice would he make evaluations and direct players to lose / gain weight.

He said he could not make those decisions without putting them through drills and practice. He even said that watching film wouldn't do it. He needed to have 'hands on' with them to determine it.

You never know.

I guarantee no one would have guessed Godchaux would have had the impact he did. Went from being a pretty good HS DE who we barely got (ole miss LOI fiasco) to our best DT within a 8 month span.

shite happens.

I agree that his on field evaluation this spring will help him decide what needs to happen with players weight, but I believe we need to change something about our approach and philosophy with d line. We have been very average the last two years in terms of production

Moffitt has a lot of influence and with Brick and Chief gone I think he's started to mold Herron back into the DE he's supposed to be that will fit the scheme better. Herron looked sloppy with all of that weight he had to gain.

That is great about Herron--if he can contribute, that will be a bonus. I hope to read soon that Valentine and Trey L are ready to come through at DT and it may be that DL will. E much stronger than many think.

Yes! I knew it was only a matter of time before somebody moved him back to DE. I think he is good enough to start at one of those spots.

Every guy is different... Some play great with weight and some just aren't comfortable with it or it slows them and makes em more uncoordinated affects balance and all kinds of crap for different people and you can't make someone into something they aren't, that's dumb and If the coaches were doing this, it's no wonder we have regressed. That's why coach O said that, he needs to see them work at that weight. I think Valintine will be a horse in there bc I hear he carries a lot of weight well. We will see I guess?

Size isn't everything.

It seems to me that coach O wants them to be more agile by trimming the fat while maintaining or improving strength.

Herron was a DT last year who was considered small for LSU standards. Beefing up the DE can be obtained by making one guy like Bower (hopefully around 255-260) add weight, or moving a lighter, quicker DT to DE.

A 270lb DE will be the biggest DE LSU has had since Tyson Jackson back in 2008 IIRC.
