of course not

but it is a given that when you see a defensive player jump offsides, you take a shot because it is a free play

it was a smart throw by Allen because LSU was offsides

don't even try to defend it

Wrong. It's a free play if the refs call offsides, which is different. Allen assumed he had a free play, but he didn't. That's a serious mistake on his part.

And even if it was offsides, throwing a wild heave with a less than 5% chance of completion isn't the smart call. You take a chance downfield, sure, but that doesn't mean you throw it wildly up for grabs.

Most of the people on here wouldn't just be ripping Jennings, they would once again be calling for Miles head over something like that. The haters on here would have placed all the blame on Miles shoulders.

The QBs dont actually look for the flag They assume the refs dont suck arse and will call the obvious offsides. The refs sucked though and missed this call. There is no other way to say it. But that doesnt mean they cost A&M the game, the calls evened out throughout the course of the game

Well then that's a risk you're taking that the ref sees the same thing you did. I've been critical of LSU for this - when opposing DLs jump offsides, we never snap it to get the free play. After last week, I won't complain anymore.

I realize that to the average ranter the Tigers are the only team in college football who ever makes a stupid mistake, but would it kill some of you to admit that Allen screwed up here?

kinda hard to see the flag being thrown from the sidelines

any QB in that situation should have assumed a flag was called since it was kinda obvious he was offsides

I'll admit he was probably offsides, and I would've been upset had a flag been thrown, but I could understand why (similar to Vadal's unsportsmanlike in the Bama game). It ended up being a better call than PI on 3rd and 23, anyway.

Yea, that's it. Allen didnt screw up. He did what he was coached to do and what is the standard in football. When someone is offsides, you take the free play. Very simple. The refs fricked A&M.

You'd be wrong....looked clearly offsides....I'll take it any day though considering how many times we've got azz-raped by the officials.

Hard to tell because their shite stadiums broadcast camera isn't situated on the 50 yard line

This is a stupid comment. All football television product crews place cameras on the 20, 50, and other 20 at press box level or lower. The placement of the ball at the start of the play determines which of the three cameras take the live action shot for the entirety of the play. In Tiger Stadium, the 20 yard line cameras are placed above two of the upper entrance ramps, much lower than the 50 yard line camera, which is in the press box.

I looked at this for a few minutes as well, because in the stadium I couldn't tell at all. It could have been offsides, but if you look at his toe (about 2/3 from the 50 to the 49) and draw a line up parallel to the line of scrimmage, it would hit him in the chest in the area above the numbers. I'm not sure that, with his head looking up, there's more than about a foot's worth of body/gear between there and the line of scrimmage.

Not that it matters, but the way this was described to me by the opposing fans, I imagined the Raiders vs Chiefs game a couple of weeks ago...

But if you go vertically up from the tip of the football (note the red line in picture to the right), you can see that he wasn't over the football.
So all you are saying is that his head wasn't directly over the football? And therefore in your mind he wasn't offsides? That's pretty homerish.

For the record...

Peterson made the interception
The USC right guard moved before the snap

There are times when a defender jumps pre-snap, the offense quickly snaps the ball and takes a knee in an attempt to get a free 5 yards only to discover that the referee did not throw a flag. The offense can complain all they want, but THEIR incorrect assumption cost them a down. It happens. When you make assumption you do so at your own peril.

Were we actually off sides? Probably. But in the absence of a yellow flag flying through the air Allen shouldn't have thrown the ball. He screwed up. And yes, this board would be ready to crucify Jennings if he made such an egregious error.

Not a smart play if no flag. Not worth the risk.
