Yessir. Definitely want to take a look at the defense as I played defense. However, that defense got shredded in the Spring Game so I'm not sure what we'll see lol.

Of course we will. Set the bar low enough and practically anything will be an improvement.

I see what you are getting at. Can also be looked at as he got off the Hi quickly as soon as the Lo come open. To me, it is hard to believe the point you were trying to make when the defense is so out of place.

Seeing a bust by the defense underneath is also a great sign for Jennings. He missed busted assignments routinely last year. The one I remember off the top of my head was against Bama in the second half. We ran a dagger concept. Quinn ran the void and Dural the Dig. No one ran with Quinn, and it would have been a certain touchdown. Jennings forced it to Dural in triple coverage for an incompletion. If he cleans up things like that and starts to take advantage of busts, that would be a huge step for his maturation.

I don't think I'm asking for much, but I wish we had Herb Tyler QBing this team. That's an LSU QB who wasn't flashy but won a lot of games. If we can get his type of production the offense will be good enough for Atlanta.

I know they will improve, but how much? Like everyone else, I'll believe it when I see it.

When Herb played a 8~4 season was a case for celebration

You may be romanticizing Herb's game. Jennings gave LSU about the same production as Herb did as a junior. I admit that he was more efficient, but the numbers are very similar.

I hear what you are saying, but he didn't have the wideouts or defense Jennings has.

But I probably am romanticizing a bit LOL. And remember Tyler played just as early as AJ with a worse OC.

And his OL wasn't worth much either...he was forced to start scrambling soon after taking the snap...he was one tough dude...

Jennings does look better in your film study, but that was just a spring game. My concern is that he didn't appear to get much better over the course of an entire season. Why not? Or did he get better and it wasn't apparent to the average fan like me?

Restating the obvious. Pretty easy to strut your stuff when you know in adavance you're not gonna get touched by the other side.

As noted, his deep ball is outstanding, his recognition and short/intermediate accuracy are destroying his efficiency and efficacy.
NO recognition and NO efficiency and NO efficacy in the short/intermediate passing game means NO CHAMPIONSHIPS! In other words, he's not an SECWest/SEC Championship caliber QB and most likely will never improve enough to be one. (Never say never though, huh)

The "Jury is still Out" on the "Other Guy." The "Other Guy" has more physical upside and potential to be an SEC Championship QB, but we don't know what he's got between the ears. "Potential" is just that. He hasn't done it on the field yet. So WE THE JURY (LSU Adult Fan Base) are still sequestered and need more evidence before we pronounce a judgement and verdict!

Unlike Jefferson, if Jennings can actually improve he may not be so bad. I'm still rooting for Harris to get the job, however.

Just get the ball into Dural and Dupre's hands!

You should root for both. More likely scenario is we will need both at some time this season. 06 is the only season I recall recently only needing one.

Mostly a good read. This, though...

quote:

Jennings has a very live arm and can make all the throws,

This is just not true. He has an adequate arm and has nice touch, but he can't make all the throws. Bullet over the middle, back shoulder on the edge, he does not have the arm strength and that's something you can't coach. We don't have to run those plays to be successful, but this is just incorrect.

Honestly, it is also a stretch to say he has nice touch. He is very inaccurate.

This. First thing you notice in this "film study" is that he took all day to throw the ball. Of course Harris took advantage of the green jersey and scrambled for a ton of yards...

I have watched zero film of the offseason workouts, but I think it's impossible for the QB play to get worse, so Im confident in saying that the QB will improve.

That doesn't mean much

I'll believe it when I see it. There is a long pattern of poor play and poor scheme at lsu.
